Prelief & Protonix

I saw my doctor last week and asked about taking the Prelief.
I said I had taken afew tablets to try it out.

The doctor told me that since I am on "Protonix" 2 times daily I Cannot take Prelief.

The Protonix is a Acid Reducer and should not be taken with the Prelief as it would be like double dosing myself.

So I paid all that $$$ for nothing.

Dear Glenda:

Prelief is taken with food; it takes the acid out of acidic food and beverages. For many people, the problems they have from acid are from the foods they eat, or made worse by the foods they eat. Protonix suppress stomach acid. They work independently of one another.

If you would like to provide your name and address, I would be happy to send you our brochure. Also please visit our website, www.prelief.com. Click on products, and then (on the left side, at the bottom of 'Prelief Consumers") click on 'What you should know about acid blocking drugs'.

I wonder why my doctor felt it would be double dosing myself then with these type meds ???

I was told I can't even use Tums or Rolaides with Protonix.

No other acid med's are to be mixed with it.

Since I began the Protonix about a year ago , My Acid Reflux is totally GONE.
This is a Great medication.

I think I might do some investigating then , and take 1 Protonix in the Am , and 1 Prelief in the Evening.

Thankyou for the Brochure offer , I will read more of it on-line.
I don't have mail delivery up in the mountains where I live.
I have to drive all the way to town to get my mail. ( 30 miles away ) To the neaest post office. And in the winter time , I only go Once a month due to the Deep snow and bad roads.

Please check with your doctor & pharmacist about medicine interactions!

This week's favorite one-liner:
"I love deadlines. I especially like the whooshing sound they make as they go flying by...

New second favorite:
"And which dwarf are you?."

Adding a third because I'm just so darn easily amused...
"Eagles may soar, but weasels aren't sucked into jet engines."

Current treatments:
-IC diet
-Elavil 20mg at night
-Ditropan 5mg at night
-Continuous use birth control pills (4-5 periods/year)
-Heparin/Marcaine/Sodium Bicarb home instills every night & sometimes in the morning also
-Pyridium if needed, usually once a week or so
-1 Darvocet at bedtime,
-Flexeril 10mg at bedtime
-Dye Free Benadryl for allergies occasionally
-Pelvic floor & myofascial release (external only) physical therapy for 8 weeks, then home exercise program...
-Managing stress
-Fur therapy: Hugging the cat!

Glenda, you need to follow your doctor's instructions on medications, which is the reason most doctors want to know exactly what their patients are taking, including over the counter and herbal remedies.

Nothing on these forums will take the place of your physicians advice/instructions. If you don't feel comfortable with what your doctor is telling you, I suggest a second opinion.

I totally agree with Donna and Kadi. I am on this medicine and was told not to mix it with other anti acids.. So I would listen to what your Dr says..
