Finally Pregnant!

We are finally pregnant after nearly 2 years of trying! Does folic acid bother anyone? I was taking 400 mcg, but want to bump up to 800. I took 600 last night and am flaring today. Trying to figure out if it was something I ate or the folic acid.

Is prelief safe during pregnancy?

Hi,

I just wanted to say congratulations! I'm not so sure about the folic acid question...I thought I've heard that B vitamins can be irritating sometimes? I'm not 100% sure, hopefully someone else can chime in an answer this question. I hope your IC treats you well during pregnancy. I had some flaring for the first 10 weeks and then I had a wonderful remission that lasted through breastfeeding

Congrats on getting pregnant! It's so exciting!

I had a baby girl on Oct. 2. I actually did fine with a prenatal vitamin, which had folic acid in it. Even before being pregnant, though, I wasn't as sensitive to things like vitamins. While I was pregnant I ended up having a remission, which was nice! Now I'm still doing well with my bladder, thanks to breastfeeding.

As far as Prelief goes, my ob/gyn said it was OK to take. It's so similar to Tums, which I was also cleared to take. However, I didn't end up taking Prelief while pregnant. Maybe once or twice in the beginning, but since I ended up in basically remission, I found that I could get away with more diet wise. I didn't go nuts eating all kinds of bad bladder stuff, but I could have things like BBQ sauce without paying for it later.

Hope that helps. You're welcome to PM or e-mail me if you just want to talk about being pregnant. It's exciting and terrifying all at once, I think! My e-mail is schr3ib3r@gmail.com

I take folic acid and iron with no problems...but I have read on here that some people did have problems with folic acid.

Thanks!

Thanks everyone! I seem to be having a rough first couple of weeks. I think the folic acid threw me into a flare (it's the only thing I'm constantly taking and I'm still in pain). I also think I'm more prone to YI's right now and have one of those on top of everything else.

Did anyone find the first trimester to be full of flares and the the last two much better? I'm hoping that's the case. On top of morning sickness and being over tired this is not very fun! Thank goodness it's worth it!

My OB sent me to a holistic healer who gave me Sarsaparilla to take daily in hope that will help calm my bladder symptoms. We'll see... Anyone have any experiance with that?

Hi,

Yes, my first trimester was sort of rough. At about 10 weeks it got suddenly better and it put me into a fairly nice remission all the way through nursing

I've not had any experience with Sarsaparilla, so I can't help you there.

My bladder did seem to cooperate more in the second and third trimesters. Hopefully yours will settle down. That utter exhaustion of the first trimester is tough. It is worth it, though that exhaustion will come back in the first month of your baby's life. Sorry, my daughter just hit two months today and I'm having an extra exhausting day...
