If I Sleep Through the Night, Can It Still Be IC?

I guess I'm lucky...
I don't have nocturia, and I pretty much sleep through the night without the urge to urinate.
Bur once I wake up, I gotta go, and the endless cycle of urethral burning and urgency begins.
Every day and every night, the same thing, for 7 years.
My MD says it can't be IC if I don't have nocturia... so he won't prescribe Elmiron for me.
Is this true?

Yes, it's possible to sleep all night and still have IC. If you aren't feeling comfortable with what you are being told, I suggest a second opinion.

Warm hugs,
Donna

Your doctor it's absolutely not right! I have IC for 4 years with daily time frecuency. I usualy do not wake up during the night or maybe once sometimes and this will be if I have had more licuids in the evening. I think this have somethng to do with the body position . My symptoms are much stronger when I am in stright position . So definitely there is the possibility that you may have Ic.

Hi there!

I was diagnosed w/IC in September of this year and I never get up at night to pee. I don't even have to go really bad when I do get up in the morning either. I only go pee between 3-7 times a day and every time I pee my volume is about 12 oz. Not sure if that amount is considered "normal" or not. My main symptoms are urethral irritation and vaginal soreness/burning. These symptoms were much worse before I started the Elmiron and Glucosamine w/MSM.

I suggest you go see another doctor asap!

Diagnosed Sept. 2009 based on symptoms

Current Medications:

Elmiron 100 mg 3x per day (started Sept. 09)

Glucosamine w/MSM 1000 mg per day (started Oct. 2009) Added Glucosamine w/MSM and Chondroiton in Jan. 2010

Elavil 12 mg at bedtime (started Dec. 2009) Upped my dose to 25mg on Dec.14th) Lowered dose to 12 mg again on Dec. 28 due to the feeling that I was having slight retention

IC Diet

Ativan as needed .5 mg (this really seems to help with my symptoms)

Update as of Jan. 6th 2010

Stopping Elmiron and weaning off of Elavil

Started using 10 mg vaginal valium

I'm exactly the same as you King, I don't have to pee at night, but as soon as I break the seal in the morning, the peeing begins. I have to bladder train all day and it is certainly a chore, especially during a flare. You might just have IC truly. Go to another doctor b/c mine totally believed I had IC even though I didn't go 100 times at night.

Hey kingofpain, I have moderate IC and sleep through the night. I don't have the frequency, just severe pain and pelvic pressure. Once I wake up, it starts all over again, like you. Have you had something diagnostic that shows you have IC, or are you just self diagnosing based on symptoms?
