Hydro/Cysto/DMSO

I am scheduled to have my 4th hydro next week. In the past, they have seemed to help but seemingly less and less each time.. I have been reading the pros and cons here and am not quite understanding some of the replies..Do most of you get the hydros for diagnostic reasons or for treatment?? It seems as if most of you are using it for diagnostics???? The reason I ask is that I am trying desperately to find the best treatment for me and with it being the holidays, I'd preferably like to put my body through as little "trauma" as possible if I could possibly acheive similar results via another route??? It always takes me weeks to recover from the hydro and last one took as long as 6 weeks until i was completely "pain free" for lack of a better phrase!?! Pain meds make my spasms so much worse so pain meds are not a option for me ..Any advice is WELCOME!!!!

Thanks so much!

To my understanding

Hi donnadb040,

I'm pretty new to IC, but it's my understanding that it's used for both diagnostic and treatment purposes.

My first cysto-hydro is Dec. 7th and is being done as a treatment; however, this is also their opportunity to make a definitive diagnosis.

I'm sorry you have such a long recovery time, but after that does the hydro keep you pain free for a few months? If you don't get a good result from it maybe it's time to reassess treatment options with your uro? From what I hear, some people just don't get the benefits from that treatment.

Of course I'm no doctor, this is just what I've learned.

Take care and I hope it goes better this time.

Melissa
