Just started Elavil
I have taken 25mg 3 hours ago and now I am totally drowsy.. Nice and relaxed actually..
Will this be every night? What's the best time to take it?

THe IC pain is now pretty manageable and irrelevant in my every day life. I had a tough year, leading to a nervous breakdown, but doing much better now
I left my boyfriend just before Christmas 2009. And with him a lot of stress, because he didn't support me emotionally in the most difficult time of my life.
Conditions
I have been diagnosed with IC in April 2008
I discovered Hashimoto thyroiditis.
I suffer from stress and anxiety and I am seeing a therapist.
Current medications
Nutritional Therapy - Lyrica (75mg) - Elavil (50mg) - yasmin
Past treatments
Cystistat instills (12) finished. They helped.
Citalopram (20mg) - helped a bit with depression, not with anxiety

When I first started taking it, I took it around 7:30pm in order to be able to wake up at 5:30am. Now that I've been taking it for 6-1/2 years, I can take it up to about 10pm & still get up at 5:30 no problem.
It really was (and is) a miracle drug for me. When I first got IC, I was unable to sleep more than 15 or 20 minutes at a time before I'd need to pee, basically voiding 60x a day round the clock. I was hysterical by the fourth week like that.
My first dose of 10mg of Elavil, I slept for four hours straight! I was so grateful, I cried. Within a week, I was sleeping 7 hours a night with maybe getting up once to pee. Within a month, I was only voiding 20x a day and my pain level was much much lower.
It's now been 6-1/2 years on it (I now take 20mg) and I am so grateful it works so well for me! One of my coworkers also has IC and it is the only medicine she needs to manage her IC and keep working.
Good luck! I hope you have equally good results with it.

This week's favorite one-liner:
"Incontinence Hotline...Can you hold, please?"
New second favorite:
A school teacher was arrested at the airport for trying to go through security with a slide rule & a calculator. He was charged with carrying weapons of math instruction."
Adding a third because I'm just so darn easily amused...
"Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups"
Above funny things are from the "Prairie Home Companion--Pretty Good Joke Book", which I pull out & read when I've had a bad day & really need a laugh...
Current treatments:
-IC diet
-Elavil 20mg at night
-Ditropan 5mg at night
-Continuous use birth control pills (4-5 periods/year)
-Heparin/Marcaine/Sodium Bicarb home instills every night & sometimes in the morning also
-Pyridium if needed, usually once a week or so
-1 Darvocet at bedtime,
-Flexeril 10mg at bedtime
-Dye Free Benadryl for allergies occasionally
-Pelvic floor & myofascial release (external only) physical therapy for 8 weeks, then home exercise program...
-Managing stress
-Fur therapy: Hugging the cat!
