Therapist?

Does anyone know how or where to find a trustworthy therapist (in Kentucky...)? I've been fighting the idea of finding one for a few years now, and I really think it would help me instead of medication...or that's what I'd like to think. I don't want to be controlled by medication like in the past, and I just want someone to talk to about my thoughts and problems who can help me and actually listen. I don't like going to my friends or my boyfriend because I don't like talking about my problems with them because I feel like a crazy person and they think I just overreact sometimes.

I'm afraid I'll find an overpriced therapist that won't accomplish much, but I guess in order to find one in my area, I'd have to go to my primary care physician in order to have someone referred? I haven't been to her in months, and I think she moved, so I was just seeing if there is another way around that. I'm just rambling now : / I've just been in a weird mood all weekend...maybe I'll wake up tomorrow thinking this post was silly to write.

Do you belong to or go to a church? Usually they have a therapist/councilor on staff if the church is large enough. If you don't go to church, you should still be able to utilize the therapist/councilor of one. All you should have to do is call a larger church to find out if there is one on staff or if they recommend one in your local area. If the first church you call is unable to help you, keep calling all the churches you know of in your area or use the Yellow Pages to do this. I think churches might even use a sliding scale for billing rates.

IC Volunteers are not medical authorities nor do we offer medical advice. In all cases, we strongly encourage you to discuss your medical treatment with your personal medical care provider. Only they can, and should, give medical recommendations to you.
