Does hydroxyzine work better over time?
Hydroxyzine does seem to help me a little with the frequency and irritation feeling. But I definitely need a lot more help. Does hydroxyzine continue to work better over time? They say a lot of IC therapies take a few months to help. I've been on it for maybe 6 weeks or so. Will it continue to help more and more? Or is this it?

Pelvic pain began July 2008. Urinary frequency began in November of 2008.
Cystoscopy showed evidence of glomerulations on the bladder.
Main symptoms: Frequency mostly. Also some mild to moderate pain. Completed 8 months of physical therapy.
Currently on: IC Diet, Elavil (30mg), Elmiron since June '09 (500mg/day), Hydroxyzine (50mg), Cystoprotek, DH Aloe, Alesse Birth Control to regulate hormones, and Flowmax. I also just started PTNS. I have done 4 of 12 weekly sessions.
Previously tried and quit: one series of six instillations, Neurontin, Ditropan, Oxytrol, electric stimulation to the pelvic floor.

Hello, what dose are you on? I didn't find it to help me a ton, but it did help me a little, more so with sleep. I know the first week I was on it, it actually increased my frequency some but that went away. As far as if it works better the longer you are on it, I am not sure. Its not like Elmiron I know if thats what your asking where it takes a long time to work.

Hi! I'm on 50 mg of Hydroxyzine nightly. It helps a little. I was watching Jill Osbourne's videos and she said when starting a new IC therapy you have to give it at least three months to know if it's helping. I was hoping that meant that the Hydroxyzine may kick in even more possibly. But maybe this is it. I've been having pressure symptoms lately and OAB meds don't seem to touch it.

You do have to give it time and many times it is used in combination with other medications. It works very well for me.

I read an article by Dr Parson's and he suggests giving the medicine three months to determine if it is helpful. He suggests using Elmiron along with it.

Atarax / Hydroxyzine
I have taken this for about the last 16 years that I can recall.
100 mg's 3 times daily. (When needed for itching)
I see no bladder benefits in my case situation.

I know what you are talking about. SOmetimes I think the UROs don't know that much about IC.. so I think they just give us stuff to take and hope that it works.

Did you know the Hydroxyzene can be Compounded into a 2% cream ?
My Pharmacist makes it into cream all the time for topical itching.
Just get a doctor to write the Rx. for Cream. Not pill.
I use it for topical itching.
Not for internal use though !

I take 75 mg at night. I do have a difference in bladder pain when I do not take it.

I have only had Atarax once, when I broke out in hives from allergic reaction to Celebrex. I was so miserable with hives at the time and pretty pain free with the IC so I don't know if it helped anything or not.
