What do ya'll think is causing the Fluid Retention

I started the Elmiron at the same time that I started the Hydroxyzine and that was 3 weeks ago as of this upcoming Friday. I have gained about 6 lbs in this this time frame. My weight was at 143 a week ago, then on Sunday it was 140, and here it is just 3 days later and it is 146. I know for a fact it is one of the meds and one of them is causing fluid retention. I am trying to figure out which one of these 2 is the culprit. Which do ya'll think? Any advice, words of wisdom, etc is very much appreciated!

Is Elmiron known to cause water retention or is Hydroxyzine?

I can chime in by saying all the time I took Elmiron (200mg/day for almost a year) I didn't have any fluid retention issues with it at all. I've never taken antihistamines so I can't speak to those. Hope that helps!

I am having a feeling it has to be the Hydroxyzine

I am going to stop taking it as of tonight. My primary reason for taking it (50 mg per night) is to go to sleep and at first it helped a tad with that, and now it does not help at all.

When in doubt about a medication and possible side effects, call your rx'ing pharmacy.

I agree...check with the pharmacy. I take Atarax and have edema in my legs but I don't believe it is related. We have to have the head of our bed raised because I have GERD and the doc said that is the reason.

Makes me wonder..........

You should also be looking at your diet. I know if I eat many "prepared" foods, such as canned soup, I retain fluid from the sodium content.

We've slept with the head of our bed elevated for many years because my hubby has a hiatus hernia --- at first it was not fun --- after the first night we woke up at the foot of the bed but now if I lay flat I feel strange.

Could it be anything to do with your cycle? I haven't heard about fluid retention on either of these, but anything is possible.

Pelvic pain began July 2008. Urinary frequency began in November of 2008.

Cystoscopy showed evidence of glomerulations on the bladder.

Main symptoms: Frequency mostly. Also some mild to moderate pain. Completed 8 months of physical therapy.

Currently on: IC Diet, Elavil (30mg), Elmiron since June '09 (500mg/day), Hydroxyzine (50mg), Cystoprotek, DH Aloe, Alesse Birth Control to regulate hormones, and Flowmax. I also just started PTNS. I have done 4 of 12 weekly sessions.

Previously tried and quit: one series of six instillations, Neurontin, Ditropan, Oxytrol, electric stimulation to the pelvic floor.

Unfortunately no

I do not start my period for another 3 weeks. It is definately one of the meds. I quit the hydroxyzine 2 days ago and have already lost 2 lbs. I am pretty sure that was the culprit.
