Elavil help with incontinence?

Hi -

Really strange question, I think - but has anyone noticed that elavil helps with urinary incontinence? I'm only 35, and after I had kids, I'd leak a little if I had to go, but it wasn't a big deal - happened only infrequently. Fast forward to this year - started treatment for mild IC - Elmiron and Elavil (25 mg). I LOVE elavil. I slept through the night, had no more bladder issues - really, I felt normal, except for the weight gain. I gained 10 pounds in 3 months, and decided to go off the elavil (with the dr's ok) to see if the Elmiron had kicked in, or was enough alone.

I've been off of it for about 10 days, and I have full on lost control of my bladder 3 times. Today was in public, and I wanted to die. The night time urination alone has increased which makes me want to go back on it, but I'm wondering if the increased incontinence is a coincidence or the result of stopping the elavil. The wierd thing is - I didn't feel like I had to go before it happened.

Not cool.....

For some I think Elavil can cause urinary retention - that might have been helping in your case. There are always trade offs with these meds - you might gain weight but at least you won't need to buy diapers.

That was hilarious - I actually told my dr. that yesterday. WAAAYYYY too young for that. I just got my kids out of diapers. Not super interested in starting them for myself.
