Bladder Looks Good, But Still Have Burning - Interstitial Cystitis Network Support Forum

I am not sure where I should put this one. I have had 15 DMSO instills beginning 7/07 and finished my last one 4/16/07. I schedule a consultation appointment with the uro on 5/16/07. He checked my bladder through a camera. My capacity is 350 cc which the uro said looked good. He also said my bladder looked good and I was doing better than I thought.

If my bladder looks good, I don't understand why I still am having burning. I am still a peebody using the restroom every 45 minutes to an hour on a good day. The uro gave me a new prescription for Vesicare. I had asked the uro if he thought I had vulvadynia too, he really didn't answer, but said maybe the Vesicare would help that which it won't. I am already taking 10 mg of nortriptyline for about a month already.

What does anyone think on a better bladder but burning still exists?

My dr said your bladder could still look good with IC.

You know with burning it could also be something you are eating or drinking..Certain things make me burn like foods with vinegar and soft drinks and spicy foods...

Even though an IC bladder may look good, a person could still have symptoms? From 7/06 to 4/07, even though with DMSO instills, I was having burning continually. I just don't understand how my bladder could look good. The cystoscopy was at the doctor's office. My bladder wasn't stretched as much as possible like it was under anesthesia. I had a cystoscopy done last March 2006. That uro labeled me as moderate IC. I had many pinpoint fissures and blood.

cystos without hydros are pretty useless when it comes to detecting the severity of the IC

That is what I thought. How could the uro see how my bladder was really doing with the DMSO if he hadn't performed it with a hydrodistention too. Maybe, the uro wants to get rid of me?

my bladder looked fine too, but it definitly was NOT fine! i still have a lot of pain, and my doctor said based on my symptoms, i most likely have IC anyway. the only thing i can think is, maybe you dont have visible ulcers, but you could still have lots of mast cells secreting irritating histamine on your nerves so that you feel lots of pain, even if you dont SEE anything. i'm doing better on meds, and tahts all i care about!

With the first uro, I had a cystoscopy in the office, but the uro did a cysto with hydrodistention since he said it was impossible to determin IC without that. If the current uro really thinks my bladder has improved, then maybe he should do another hydro, I bet that will prove him wrong.

Why would he tell me I am better than I think? So far, the Vesicare has kept me longer away from the restroom. 3-4 hours to be exact.

Here it is June 7 and I am still having constant urethral burning. I had it everyday last week, and now with my period it is worse. I really don't think my bladder is any better. Boo hoo for me. One more week before I go back to the uro.

I have the same symptom of urethral burning as you do...I am trying out MSM gel (topical gel applied to the urethral opening area). I saw another person on here trying it and she said it worked! She gave me a website to order it from: www.jacoblab.com. I haven't received it in the mail yet, I ordered it yesterday. Maybe you'd like to try it? She said it worked in 3-4 days...I HOPE I have the same luck!

I have MSM gel too. I have tried to remember to put it on after restroom visit. So far, I haven't had any relief from it yet in 5 days of use. I see the uro next week.
