Please send some healing thoughts

When we took our Meggie dog to the vet yesterday (another bout with plugged anal glands and she's fine now.) --- we had to wait a long time, even though we had an appointment.

Turns out that our vet was delayed because he was doing surgery on a beautiful golden lab, who was hit by a car --- his jaw was badly broken and took a lot of repairs. Now the hope is that the jaw will heal and he will be able to eat normally. I feel like crying every time I think about him.

The vet is a friend of ours and had a doggie bed in his treatment room so he could watch the poor dog closely.

Please --- if you live on a busy street or highway, and if you don't have a fenced in yard --- take your dog out on a leash. This dog lives on a busy highway and his owner simply let him out and he went in the road.

Aww, how sad!!! I hope the little guy gets better. It sounds like he at least has a wonderful, compassionate vet! Too bad this guy doesnt treat humans too! We'd be beating his door down! But I am glad the doggie has an attentive Dr. I hope he makes a full recovery!

poor doggie. I hope he heaals well..
This past summer I was exiting the free way, when out of no where this dog darts out in fron of me, I hit him, and he yelped. I pulled over and the dog got up and ran onto the freeway. I got out and tried to catch him. I was so upset and shaking horribly. It didn't help any to get cussed out by the guy behind me for stopping.. I had a guy that had a cell call the police, and I caled when I got home.. I never knew if they got him or not.

Hi Donna, Thats such a sad story, I love my dogs... I have a Lab her name is Gabby, a Basset Hound her name is Harlee and she is sooooo funny, and a Chihauhaua and his name is Snowball cause hes solid white...The big dogs stay outside, but Snowball stays inside, He sure has been alot of company when all I could do was stay in bed...The story you told was sad about the dog who was having surgery, I hope the dog makes it...and as for your dog I sure hope its ok....God

We had a Lions breakfast this morning and our vet attended --- the lab made it through the night and has gone home with his people. He said he was wagging his tail in the car.

And our Meggie is fine this morning.

I am so glad to hear the doggie made it! I have seen so many of those invisable fences being put up around me. They must work since this one home (I'm in the country) has 6 dogs and they stay in the yard behind the invisable fencing. Nice to hear he had a caring vet to take care of him as well. Those are hard to find just as much as a person doc. Just so glad he pulled through ok.

I am glad to hear theat Meggie and the Golden are doing well! Yes I agree with the leash thing or a large fenced in area where there is a lot of land.

Warm Hugs!

Glad they are both ok.

Poor Meggie and those anal glands. My Maggie has lots of trouble with them as well. Fortuneatly our vet taught hubby how to do and we have not had to make that trip for awhile.

I'm glad things turned out okay for meggie and the golden lab. I see the same dogs along the highway so often in my part of the country and it breaks my heart! It's only a matter of time before they'll be hit. What are their owners thinking? And when there is an unaccompanied dog on the side of the highway, why is it people don't slow down?

Sorry, didn't mean to go off on my own little gripe!

I know this post is older, but I just saw it...how does one clean out a dog's anal glands? I've got a dalmation too, and he's getting old, almost 9 now, and never had his glands cleaned, or blocked for that matter. Does it make them sick?

I saw Mike Rowe do it on Dirty Jobs once, but that hardly qualifies me as a doggie anal gland cleaner!!

Glad the dog pulled through that got hit. Cindy, I've seen them hit on the highway before and I always cry...one time I did a U-Turn on an exit ramp to get back to where I'd spotted a dog about to get hit, never found him though....And, Donna, glad your Meggie's anal glands are better.

Now that I have 3 dogs, whether it's temporary or permanent with the 3rd one, I really would like to know how ya do this.
