So tired of "the diet"..zzzz...
I am now having dreams about cheeseburgers and burritos! LOL some nachos smothered in salsa and jalepenos!!! LOL..does anyone else get so tired of the diet??? I know there is nothing really I can do about that, at this point....I'm feeling MUCH better on the diet and pain meds so I'm not going to rock the boat with stupidity but I think its funny I fantasize about the "forbidden fruit" LOL
Not to mention I'm skinnier than ever and if I drop anymore weight I may blow away.....lol Darned bladder....
No real point to this post, just a diet vent. Maybe I need some NEW ideas on IC friendly foods? Anyone have something Nacho-like or tex-mex in their cookbooks they want to share? I have a REAL problem with any processed and prepackaged foods so the fresher, the better...
Off to eat a pear!

I don't like it at all.all that food sounds so good and if my bladder doen't get better when I am older that is what I will eat on my death bed along with a six pack of beer. This diet is soo bland but what could we do? I have lost 30 pounds in three months.

Haha, a while ago I was talking to a friend about the "last meal" that death row inmates get and what would have, and I was like "Wow, I could eat anything! I could eat MEXICAN!" The diet's gotta be pretty darn bad if I'm fantasizing about being on death row here, geesh.
Anyway, I totally agree, the diet totally sucks. It's bland, it makes you an outcast, it's not particularly healthy. I hate it. Sometimes it helps to be optimistic about it, sometimes it helps to vent about what a pain it really is. In any case, when I'm really craving Mexican food, this recipe is a pretty good substitute.
Mexican Quiche
Tortillas
Flour
Red Bell Pepper
Corn
Black Beans
Egg whites
Milk
Spinach
Colby Jack cheese, shredded
Avocado
Grease a baking dish, layer some tortillas for the crust and cover them with a little flour. Then add chopped pepper and corn, then black beans. Then combine egg whites, a little milk and some spinach and pour the mixture in the dish. Cook for 35 minutes at 350 degrees. Garnish with cheese, and avocado slices.

I dream of just having 24 hours to eat and drink whatever I want. I miss so much being able to eat anything I want. The grocery store is especially depressing because most of the food I can't have. Also food is really a social thing and I miss that.

I'm with all on this! Everyone thinks I'm anorexic too. Now my wedding band is even getting too big! You are so right about food being a social thing. Social events can be so depressing!! We've had 2 crab feasts in the last couple weeks and eating crabs takes forever! Even worse than watching people eat regular food! I don't even know where to ask my husband to take me on a "date." We want to go a way for our anniversary but how? I can't eat out and I need to keep my Cystoprotek in the freezer!

The diet proves one thing.
CARBS DON'T MAKE YOU FAT!
I've eaten more white rice in the past 4 months than I have in my entire life. Someday - every meal. And eggs, and pears, and chicken and peas. Nope...smaller, not bigger. I have to keep fat low for IBS...seems like if you do that and keep your protein up, the weight just drips off ya. Not my goal - trust me...but one positive for others on this diet who are also looking to slim. Carb/pro/veg = weightloss. Carb/fat/low protein = weight gain. I just added pears...too. Big whoop. oops...was that me - complaining?

I Dream of Food
Have you guys ever had actual dreams in which you are eating forbidden food? I have and I wake up and I'm all confused and upset. I'm like oh man why did I eat that I'm so stupid now I'm gonna have a flare. Then I'm like wait a minute that was a dream......yay it was just a dream That's happened to me many times...lol.
You guys lost weight? I actually gained weight cause now all I eat is high fat....not a lot of weight but it's still upsetting to think I can eat a lot less stuff and yet I'm getting fatter....errrrrrrr. I didn't eat beef before now I eat that and I eat lots of cheese cause its like the only thing I can eat that has any flavor. I used to eat a bunch of diet and reduced fat stuff....now I gotta eat the full fat version of everything. :-(

Gained weight - Dreams
Oh you'll never believe THIS. I actually dream that I'm offered non-friendly IC foods and you know what I do in the dream? That's right! I say "no thanks - I can't have that". !!! Then I always wake up and wonder WHY DIDN'T I JUST EAT IT!!! I COULD HAVE ENJOYED THAT!!! -- crazy. I'm even "good" when I'm sleeping / nuts.
GAINED on this diet? Why do you have to eat the high fat version of everything. Veggies aren't high fat. None of the okay grains are high fat. Pears aren't high fat? You don't HAVE to eat lots of egg yolks...milk - you can easily get skim milk...am I missing something? Sugar - that's not high fat... - even chicken, tuna and turkey - don't have to be high fat - even if they are fresh. I don't get that.
The choice for me is Flavor or Pain. Easy choice.

Nsmith, that's really funny, I've had the same kind of dreams! You would think that we could at least enjoy them in our dreams, but noooo.
I've actually gained on the diet too. It's not because I'm forced to eat foods high in fat and carbs, it's just that I was so bored with the diet and miserable with the IC that I ate the worst of everything to make myself feel better. Screw pears, I'm going straight for the vanilla ice cream and marshmallows! I'm trying to get out of that mentatilty, because you're right, there are a lot of veggies, fruits and whole grains that are safe for us.

I naturally tend to go for foods that are bland, so that is not a problem for me -- spicy foods are like a toxin to me -- I burn easily -- I think black pepper is HOT! If I ate salsa (mild) I would say it was spicy -- so I guess I am very sensitive there.
I do use my fruit and vegetable capsules so I am getting a much more balanced diet than ever before, but other than that, I enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, chicken, fish, and I happen to LOVE pears -- so that is good too.
I love to take a whole bag of pears, peel them and put them in a pan, add a little honey and small amount of water to keep from burning... heat on low heat (or as I did, overnight in the crock pot because the pears were still firm) and then had them for breakfast -- oh, I use a little cinnamon as well.
It is delicious warmed up, or over a little ice cream or cottage cheese if you tolerate those things. I would love it on waffles too, but they are way to much carb/fat for me since I am NOT one of the lucky ones suffering from low weight problems.
I would LOVE to know what the 'low oxalate' diet is? That is something I haven't heard about --
Right now, I have been in a IBS-D /\/\/\IBS-C/\/\IBS-D/\/\/\ IBS-C battle for a week or so (much more D than C lately -- that is frustrating, but not surprising as I am detoxing from some medication... however, you would think that while I am in the D stage I would lose some weight... I am going like this is the last day it is allowed.....
Anyhow, I do not have a low weight problem -- I have just the opposite -- I am easily 50 pounds overweight and VERY unhappy about it... but I digress... this was about the IC diet -- not dieting -- I don't diet anyhow -- I eat right... I just need to kick the energy button and get moving more.. Loved it tonight when one woman explained the only way to get the weight off -- she said "it's no secret, you have to close your mouth and move your body..." Hmm.. profound eh?

Well maybe not everything is high fat but a lot of stuff is. I drink skim milk and plain meat and stuff. But I used to eat lots of salads with low cal dressing....which i dont like now cause I cant put good dressing on so I dont eat as much salads. I used to eat butter substitute but now I have to eat butter. I used to get the diet version of stuff but now I have to eat the real sugar higher calorie stuff. I can't eat diet anything cause it has fake sweetner that hurts my bladder. And I find myself putting cheese on everything cause if I don't it has no flavor....thats got a ton of fat in it.

WOW! So much great feedback! lol........I"m glad I'm not the only one that feels like throwing their hands up in the air with frustration (and culinary boredom) AND I'm not the only one fantasizing about eating!!
What's *really* fun for me (NOT) Is trying to convince [people that I'm on a *medical* diet and I'm not some anorexic or crazed dieter!!!!!! LOL Believe me, I'm drooling when I'm with other people and watching them just throw caution to the wind and order whatever they want....last week, it was bacon and all the trimmings when I ordered oatmeal! (zzzzzz........snore!)
Pamptracy, I have to keep my rings TAPED with scotch tape to keep them from falling off and I took my husband to my doctor's appointment with me last week and he was more concerned about talking to my doctor about my WEIGHT than my IC! Ugh.
megancolleen, I spotted about 4-5 things in your mouth watering recipe that I know my bladder would rebel against! Darnit........why is it *I* Have to be one of the ones that has SO MANY food sensitivities here! I'm jealous, girl! lol
I'm completely *miffed* on how to gain on this diet, every time I try.....I throw myself into a week or two long flare!!!! I cycle with it, I go a month or so and then decide to try to introduce *new* foods and it always ALWAYS backfires. So frustrating.
I"d try the ice cream diet, but sweets give me headaches! LOL Can't win here. lol
