Larabars... a new thing to try!
Hi all,
I just was introduced to a new thing recently that are IC friendly and really good--they're these really yummy snack bars. They are called "Larabars", and I can get them at Whole Foods and a lot of other health food stores. They are all "raw" foods, mostly dried fruit & nuts, and have no preservatives. In fact, they have very few ingredients. They are all a base of dried dates, and then have a few other things mixed in. the "Cashew Cookie" flavor is just dates and cashews. There is a "Ginger Snap" that is dates, almonds, ginger, cinnimon, cloves & pecans. There is about 10 different flavors, so depending on what flares you... give them a try!
Here is their website: https://www.larabar.com/
I'm not associated with the company, I just REALLY liked the two bars that I've just tried recently. Its so nice to have some snack items that are both IC friendly and really healthy!
cheers,

Hi Randi,
we're all a little different, but many of us do ok with dates. Thats why I was so happy to find these bars! I can eat dates, almonds and cashews with no problem. Preservatives sometimes give me issues, and these bars have none of that kind of stuff. (also, as a vegetarian, the nuts and fruits work well for me, too!)
cheers,

I checked the site and found that the information there is mostly about what they don't contain, but I didn't find a complete list of contents.
I'd have to read that before making a decision about trying them.

Hi Donna,
THeir website is a little weird & hard to navigate (I think), but if you click on FOOD, then LARABARS/Flavors, you can click on each bar (greyed out on the left side), and it tells you their ingredients. Right under the list of ingredients for each bar, there is button for "nutritional info" for calorie counts and stuff.
Hope that helps...

Larabars rock! I love the cashew cookie and gingersnap. Only ingredients in Ginger Snap (I have one on hand lol) is dates, almonds, pecans, ginger, cinnamon, cloves. I like the cashew cookie one more but dont have any on hand to give you info on. Theres no vit c in the ginger snap one either.

Thanks for responding to my question.
Is there a lot of sugar in these? Where is it listed in the list of ingredients?

Hi Randi,
There is NO sugar in them. Thats what great about them... the list of ingredients is a short list of a few things. the "cashew cookie" bar is only dates & cashews. Nothing else. As Windwalker says, the "ginger snap" is only dates, almonds, pecans, ginger, cinnamon, cloves. These bars are just a few simple ingredients and they are so yummy!
cheers,

The only sugars that are in it, come from the foods that are in it, dates etc. No added "stuff" all raw good foods. I was looking at the wrapper to give the info, if ya want more on the Ginger Snap, let me know, I got it sitting in front of the puter lol!

Hey there.
I am a food obsessed ICer. I am new to this .
ANYHOOOOO.
I looked at the site----duh--and they are expensive buggers. I did notice that they are 50 percent fat calories, probably from the nuts. Well, certainly front the nuts. Do u eat them as a meal or a snack? 200 calories is a big snack.
Anxiously awaiting your reply, WindWalker. When you do, I will be able to take a break from work, just as I am doing now.

Hey Randi, I eat half of it when I feel like snacking. Half is enough to enjoy for me. I found them at Trader Joes for 1.99 each. Cheapest I could find. Usually they run around 2.69 and up. Yea the fat is from the nuts says these things on the package near the nutrition facts:
-sugars and carbs are naturally occurring in fruit
-Excellent source of fiber (5g)
-Fat comes from nuts only and provides 1g of omega-3 and 3g of omega-6 fatty acids
-cholesterol and sodium free
-1 1/2 svgs of fruit based on the USDA food guide pyramid.
I could use it as meal replacement, but I look at what else I could eat as a meal and I come up w/a lot lol! But 1/2 as a snack isnt so bad. Hope that answered it
