Angry New record .. not something I'm happy about!

I had IVP Wed May 3rd ... and my right kidney area has been hurting more every day.

Thursday my primary's office ordered Darvocet-N for my pain as I didn't feel Ibuprofen 800 mg was enough but Percocet was too much for me.

I went to my part time job this evening and 40 min later my boss sent me home -- well actually to urgent care. Urgent care had just closed when I got there so I went to ER.

4 hrs later .. I was sent home with the diagnosis "backpain" ... despite the 1,000 cc -- YES 1,000cc of urine they drained from my bladder - which had the added bonus of a tiny blot clot! New Record!!! They only stopped draining the bladder at 1,000 cc cuz the nurse said more than that and my bladder could collapse. Even one of the ER docs commented that was a lot of urine!!!

The ER doc who ordered all the tests (chest xray, chest ct scan, tons of blood work and urine) had left so the jerk male nurse discharged me. I refused to leave till I saw the doctor ... so we waited another 15 min for the new shift doc to stand in the door way and say "we found nothing life threatening". He did say something about one of the blood tests (for blood clots) was slightly elevated - thus the chest ct scan but it showed negative results.

So I am home - still in pain and with Foley. Even though my pain is 6-7 (at one point a 10!) - they didn't want to give me anything till they had test results. It burns, it hurts and if I move I feel like I am being torn open. I think the Foley is right on the polyp. The only pain meds they gave me at ER was Toradol .. thats like putting a bandaid on a gushing wound.

Speaking of ... when they removed the iv they didn't apply enough pressure -got the gown, the bed and all over my arm.

I'm not a happy person right now.

2nd cystoscopy 10/6/06 confirms I DO have IC! 3 out of 4 urologists agree ... It's not in my head!

9/11/06 Urodynamic results - bladder wont hold more than 200cc without causing retention due to lack of strength in bladder to start urine flow.
5/3/06 had IVP that revealed "mild swelling" of right kidney and ureter due to "recurrent infections or urine backup into kidney"
4/13/07 - started RMSO once a week for six weeks - ON HOLD DUE TO INFECTION!!! Scheduled to start again 5/4/07.

Past meds:
Elmiron - severe nausea
Prosed - triggers migraines
Fentanyl - 3 day pain patch - lasted 36 hrs before I had to remove due to adverse reaction
Vicodin - stopped working
Tramadol - caused urine retention
Fioricet - caused urine retention
Nitrofurantoin (antibiotic for 3 months)
Celebrex 200 mg
Pyridium 200mg (for 30 days supply)

That is definitely a lot of urine for an IC bladder. I'm not surprised you were in pain. I do know that when the bladder is severely distended with retention, it shouldn't be emptied entirely. I had severe retention once many years ago and they emptied it about 500 cc at a time so I wouldn't have severe spasms.

I hope you are able to see your uro tomorrow. You definitely need attention.

Sending healing thoughts,
Donna

I will contact my primary first thing Monday morning. I will NOT contact my urologist as he is an idiot who never helps me anyway so why waste my money and time. I will also contact the referral specialist to see if I can get in before June 14th. (The ER said I should be able to since I was at ER and had that much retention).

I still don't have a lot of urine output - I think I had 200cc from midnight to 8:00am and my leg bag has maybe 100cc of dark urine ~~~ Despite my drinking a glass of milk and 20 ounces of water so far this morning.

I feel nauseated this morning. I had 2 eggs, toast and hashbrowns for breakfast and right now I am regretting the decision to eat anything.

My back is hurting more again. I am debating if I should go to urgent care or ER. (If I go to urgent care they may just send me to ER).

I'm also calling work and telling them I won't be in tonight cuz I don't feel well and I have the Foley in place. (work at Blockbuster part time - I don't want to walk around with a leg bag and definitely can't go in dress code - khaki pants with a belt. The belt and pants thing ain't working for me today! It's all about sweat pants!)

Went to Urgent Care

NOW I have an infection! I had 300cc of urine since 8:00am this morning (7 hrs and drank atleast 60oz of water and milk!) so I went to Urgent Care cuz I felt like my bladder was full and maybe the catheter was plugged. They removed the Foley and inserted straight cath and got 5cc ~ that's right 5 measly cc's (it sure felt like more!). But in those 5cc they found infection (WBC - 28, RBC - 9, Squamous Epith - 4, Mucous - Moderate). They will call with culture results in a couple of days.

Waiting for Levaquin prescription to be filled. I have some at home so I think I will go pick it up tomorrow. I'm too tired and hurting to go out again.

They decided to keep the Foley out since they didn't get much (not sure if that is good thing or if that means I'll be begging for another Foley in a few hours) My urethra is so irritated it burns to remove a catheter as much as it hurts going in.

Have I mentioned lately how much I HATE IC !?

When I read the first part of your thread the first thing that ran threw my mind was UTI. Then i thought OMG not a Foley that is one of the most painful things they can use on us ICER's to me it felt like someone was craveing on my bladder with a very shap knife.
Iwish you well very quickly hon
sending you many hugs and prayers for quick recovery.
Rhonda

ER can't help with IC

I am sorry to here of your ER experience. Years ago I went to the hospital because I was urinating blood (you could see it- pure red blood), after all the tests, ....the ER doctor told me that what ever I have....that they can't help me. Then slapped me with a $1000. bill because I had no health ins. Great. So do not think you are alone. We are here with you with IC.
Regards,
Cher

Question Flares

I Don't Know What Is Going On, But It Seems To Me That Everyone Is In A Flare Now And Reading Back Over Some Of The Threads, This Seems To Have Started Around May 1st. I Am Also Having A Terrible Flare Which Has Lasted Over Two Weeks. I've Done Everything. I Did An Instill With .75% Marcaine On Tuesday And It Brought On More Pain. Depression Is Setting In With Me Because I'm Just So Tired Of The Pain. I Went To The Market Today To Pick Up A Couple Of Things And I Also Passed Out Because I Am So Weak. I'd Just Like A Normal Life Without Pain For A Few Weeks. What Can We Do?
