"Reroute" cystectomy???
I was doing a search for the IC treatments I haven’t tried yet, which all happen to be surgical treatments
Anywho, I came across this paragraph:
"A third method to reroute urine involves making a new bladder from a piece of the patient's colon and attaching it to the urethra. After healing, the patient may be able to empty the newly formed bladder by voiding at scheduled times or by inserting a catheter into the urethra. Only a few surgeons have the special training and expertise needed to perform this procedure."
http://kidney.niddk.nih.gov/kudiseas...itialcystitis/
I really don't want to get a 'regular' cystectomy, at this time in my life, since I'm young and would prefer to have biological children one day and this procedure, from what I've read, doesn't involve the uterus.
So has anyone had or/and know anything else about this procedure? Any info would be appreciated

Thanks for the reply Donna
I looked up 'Indian Pouch" and it still requires a stoma; but luckily the same page that had the information for the pouch also had the information I was originally looking for.
The procedure is called "orthotopic diversion"
"A relatively new procedure known as orthotopic diversion involves the removal of the entire bladder and the creation of a new one from intestinal tissue. The new bladder is connected to the urethra and works like a natural bladder. This allows people to urinate through the urethra without the use of catheters or collection devices."

I had a Cecum-cysto Plastic Bladder made twice which is Part Bowel Part Bladder. It did not work for me. I also have a Ileo-conduit and I have had three Blockages and each time they used my Bowel. Except on this Last Blockage they used my Transverse Colon.
Like Now I have another Blockage and they cannot make a New loop cause I am short on Bowel, that they have used it sooo much.
I hope that his answered your Question??

Debbie, I am having my bladder removed Nov. 1. My Dr. is going to try to do a Indiana Pouch. Do I need to worry about blockages, or is that because of other diseases you have? Would you have yours removed again? I hope you are feeling better.

It is up to each persons System on how Many infections or Blockages you get. Mu Cause was Different. Right now you just think about on this Surgery and about feeling Better Okay. They Used alot of my Bowel First to try different routes. But my IC was so bad that even now it is attacking the Good and Only Kidney.
Take Care
