evening primrose oil, slippery elm, & marshmallow
I have read that these plants are soothing to the bladder. I tried evening primrose oil when soon after I became symptomatic and my symptoms went away completely for about a month; unfortunately they returned. Has anyone else tried any of these?

I take 2tablets of marshmallow root twice daily. I also take cornsilk tablets 2x a day. I find that they have helped relieve some of my urethral discomfort. liz

Slippery elm, cornsilk and marshmellow are all soothing herbs. Though some have said the marshmellow caused them problems. It didn't seem to hurt or help me! Cornsilk and slippery elm are soothing! Primrose oil I don't know, haven't tired it for IC. It might help, but We (My friends and I were all expecting at the same time) used it in pregnancy to soften, thin and help dialate the cervix. This helped shorten labors. Not good for a fast deliverier but for me it was great! So it might have some hormonal action or mucous membrane actions in it.????

I have used marshmallow root off and on, and it has helped. Also cornsilk (tea or caps) help me for urethral burning.

I had terrible frequency after having a cup of marshmello root tea. Now I am fearful of trying cornsilk tea. I am so craving something warm to drink other than warm water and hot milk .

I used marshmallow root (as tea form) I found it to be wonderful on my bladder. I also used cornsilk...took the burning away almost instantly (tincture form)
I think a lot of people try to use to much to fast.
When using herbs you have to start out VERY slow. I'm talking a sip or two of tea and work your way up. More is not better. When I first started with the marshmallow root, I used to get stinging in my mouth, then it would go to my bladder, I did some research and found out I was using TO MUCH. I cut back on it and I got wonderful results.

Franny, what about plain peppermint tea? Nothing else added, just peppermint? Some of us are alright w/that.
