Wink My Colonoscopy Is Over!!

Today I had my colonoscopy. The prep was awful, for the first batch of Phospho-soda I had thrown it all up. The doc had to call in anti-nausea meds and a colon-motility med to speed the process up for the 2nd batch. Well the batch went down good, my bladder was going nuts with the 12 ounces of liquid every hour for 8 hours. Anyway, I was grateful to pass out last night from exhaustion!!!!

Today I woke up and got ready and we went to the hospital. After checking in and getting the IV started, we went into the O.R. and they began to make me drowsy. Soon I woke up and was in excruciating pain and my colon was trying to push the scope out...so they gave me more meds and knocked me out. Then a little while later I woke up and I couldn't scream like I had before, and everyone was just saying "calm down, it's okay" and I fell back asleep, after trying to push the scope out again or something. It was so awful!

When I woke up I was in recovery, dozing in and out of consciousness. I don't remember much after that except for drinking juice and getting dressed. I was so glad to be home! I slept on and off from 11 until 6:30.

I am so grateful that this is over, and I know what is wrong now (IBS for sure) and soon I'll be on meds to treat it. And also, I am grateful that Betsie was able to tell me about the colonoscopy...but neglected to tell me about the awful parts. She knew I was a big chicken and that I would probably take off running LOL!

I'm also grateful to eat some solid foods...it's been 2 days and I was starving!

Well I'm going back to bed, feels like somebody me!

AH (((Jess))).
That sounds so horrible. I know my hubby has had to go through it and boy does he complain.. Atleast you know what is going on and that in it self can put your mind at ease a bit..
Take it easy and get lots of rest.

Thumbs up Jess214

Congrats on it being over and a thing of the past. I never woke up during mine but they didn't wait til I was sedated to insert the scope so I can kind of relate. I'm glad it's over for you as I know you were really dreading this procedure. I still say the prep for the procedure is the worst part. Hope you're feeling better soon and glad that you have a confirmed diagnosis and know what's going on and it's treatable with diet and medications. My doctor has me on Lomotil for IBS attacks, not sure what kind of IBS you have or what you'll be put on but there's alot of us on the boards that suffer from IBS so don't ever be afraid to ask us about things, okay. Sending you a get well group hug, thank God it's over, huh?

OMIGOSH! It sounds like they didn't do a very good job anesthetizing you. I didn't feel mine at all.

At least it's over now.

Warm hugs,
Donna

Hey Jess..they didn't tell me, I had ibs...because they found a few things wrong..they took like seven biopsies..did they do that for you?? did you get pictures of yours, I did? I still have no clue what is going on with my body. How are you doing? I hadn't had a chance to chat with you in a long time, maybe we can chat again sometime.

I had 3 biopsies taken, and I'll get the results from them in a few days. He thinks IBS but he said something about inflammation...argh I was so out of it. I guess I'll find out in a few days! Drop me a line sometime, though I am hardly around the computer anymore.

Hey Jess... I'm glad it's over! I'm sorry it was such a lousy experience but at least you know what is wrong now. Rest, rest, and rest some more now!

Jess,

If I had told you my experience, which was what happened to you...you would have cancelled so fast. LOL!

There is nothing fun about colonoscopy, but usually the prep is far worse than the test...just that darn spastic colon (at least for me).

By the time you aren't so groggy and get some answers you will feel so much better.

Its a great days rest though, payback for the prep. ugh.
As much as we hate it, it's a wonderful diagnostic marker.

Prep was horrible. I did the gallon of the effervescent Colyte and it is like thick sea water. I had Reglan to help but yucky! I had a bunch of polyps that they cut out.

Glad you survived kiddo.

Hugs,
Barb

I'm so sorry this was such a horrid experience for you - I am dreading the day when I will have to have this procedure as part of the usual "gettting older, let's check for cancer" thing.

Hope you feel better soon - at least that would be worth something, to feel better as a result of this.

Blessings, Lori
