Patron Saint...for IC?
Kind of a random thought, but does anyone know who a patron saint for IC might be?

Interesting question. I googled and found this:

Kim
Diagnosed August 2001
Current IC meds: Elmiron (since 2001), Levaquin (one pill after intercourse to prevent UTIs), Lexapro (since 2003 for depression & anxiety, but also helps my IC)
Past IC meds: Amitriptyline (Elavil), Hydroxyzine (Vistaril), Detrol LA (They all helped, but I was able to discontinue them.)
My IC story: http://www.ic-network.com/patientstories/kim.html It's very outdated now. I've been virtually symptom free and able to eat & drink whatever I'd like for several years now.

St. Jude maybe?
St. Jude is the patron saint of difficult cases-- medical or life situations. I'm not Catholic but worked w/a lot of lovely Catholic RNs in an ER in St. Jude Hospital in Fullerton, CA. I lost my tiny diamond stud earrings in my house for weeks. I mentioned this at work and one of the Catholic RNs said, "Oh...I'll pray to St. Jude for you to find them. He's the patron saint for really difficult cases." Guess what? I found the earrings 2 days later. I also had a friend who prayed to St. Jude when I was diagnosed w/IC. It took him awhile to get around to that, but I am as close to a remission as I've ever been. My diet is much less restricted, I still tire easily and am on Elmiron, but my use of Urelle has decreased by about 85% at times.
Anyway, I think this is why we have so many Catholic hospitals named St. Jude. I think we need someone canonized as the patron saint of IC and PBS!
I know any of us will take any help we get from any source. It's all good. If I had connections, I'd make the suggestion. My spirituality comes largely from New Thought philosophy. One big part of this movement is the admonition that "All paths to God are good." This allows for tolerance and the "right" to whatever spiritual beliefs from all the great religions that gives one peace and spiritual nurturing..
Hmmmmm that was a tangent.

Brigid is an Irish Saint or Celtic Goddess (depending upon how you look at it) of healing, and her symbol is the cauldron of rebirth. I'll be praying to her on her holiday of Imbolc! (Feb. 2nd)

I have to say, that when I had a breast biopsy 20 years ago, the doctor thought I was her one 30-something that would be diagnosed with breast cancer that year. (I had bleeding from the nipple.) I had our priest do the anointing of the sick for me (just try saying the word breast to your priest ) and I have to tell you, I had zero pain. Completely no pain after surgery, during recovery, anything. I have had hang nails keep me awake at night, but this was nothing. And, the biopsy showed nothing too. No cancer, just a milk duct that decided it didn't want to behave anymore.
I also pray to St. Anthony for lost things. Every single time, within minutes I find what I am looking for. I relate to the earrings....I somehow lost the entire head of my engagement ring (diamond and all) when I was cleaning house. It had to have been hours before I noticed it. But when I asked St. Anthony to help, I walked right to it. It was in a corner of the family room, where I hadn't even been that day and it was buried in the pile of the carpet. It was as if someone else's hands were guiding mine.
Anyway.....prayers help!

praying
I pray to Jesus, for he healed so many in Biblical Times. The Bible says he lives to intercede for his children.

Same Thought
Just last week my husband asked me who the IC saint could be!! I thought of Saint Rita, she is the patron of hopeless cases, but I still have hope for relief and healing, so thanks for the idea of St. Jude or St. Anthony. I also have many St. Anthony stories!

I just wanna say I am not a Catholic at all. I am a Methodist. Regardless, I had never heard of some of them that were mentioned. Ok. I had heard of St. Jude by now. (like the chidrens hospital) I had never heard of the holiday of Imbolc, but it is Feb. 2nd now.(also Groundhog Day) Ok. We are not knocking down and judging anybody; therefore, I will say I pray in the name of Jesus. That will be all now.

Saints
Catholics ask the saints for help and for them to pray for us. They are much closer to the source! We pray in the name of Jesus too. I know I ask for all the help I can get to make it through the day. So if you are the praying type please pray for all of us.

I'm converted to the Catholic Church, and I didn't understand the saints thing for a long time ... basically, it's like having a very holy friend pray for you as well as praying yourself. Saints are sort of a full-time prayer chain, LOL.

saint
I used to be catholic, but when I became a born again Christian, I learned that Jesus said we are all his saints. The Bible says there is only one mediator between man and God, and this is Christ Jesus, thus my reason for praying to Jesus to go to God. Praise His Holy Name!
