Had my first DMSO Treatment today

About two hours ago. So far I am not in a lot of pain, just the normal amount that I feel ever day. I was able to hold the stuff for 50 minutes before it was crucial that I go to the can. I sure hope these treatments work for me.

Thanks everyone I must admit that after a couple of hours I started to hurt a lot more than the every day hurting. Pain meds and Pyridum Plus have me at a tolerable level right now.

I always feel some discomfort after a DMSO treatment, but the rest of the days I am better so I think it's worth it. I hope it helps you too.

    Warm healing thoughts,

One thing I was wondering is it usual that after a DMSO Treatment you can't urinate? I could right after the treatment but as the day progressed and the pain increased I found it more and more difficult to go. Finally before going to bed that night I was unable to urinate at all I was miserable and in a lot of pain but the next morning everything was working fine.

    Hi!
I too found it so hard to pee after having DMSO & I have heard that it is quiet common, so hopefully everything has calmed down for you a bit. I could only hold mine for 30mins at the most & I remember for the next 24hrs it was always very painfull. It is so annoying when you are busting to pee so bad & nothing will come out I haven't had DMSO for over 2 years now, I found with each one I would get less & less benifit from it .
Hopefully thats not the case with you.. Good luck & take care.
    Andrea

I think the "unable to pee" after a DMSO happens because in certain people, instillation of DMSO can temporarily increase the inflammation in your bladder -- but then theoretically, afterwards everything calms down to an even lower level than it was before the procedure. It's like everything goes into high gear after the DMSO, and this depletes all the reserves of inflammatory and pain-mediating chemicals in your cells-- as a result, you can feel a lot better for a while until your body makes more chemicals. Then it's time to do it all again. ANYWAY, that first burst of inflammation can make things swell up, and make urinating difficult.

Alternatively, your urethra and pelvic muscles may have simply been irritated by the catheter -- that can cause it to swell up a little and make urination difficult.

Keep an eye on the symptom. If it only lasts a few hours and then you're able to go, you should be fine, but if you start going whole days without peeing, let your doc know. That kind of urinary retention is dangerous, so he needs to know about it... he can have you come in to be catheterized, or even better, teach you to self-catheterize to relieve the pressure and resolve the problem on your own.
