    Elmiron injections?

Does anyone know if Elmiron is available by injection? I am having a real hard time remembering to take it three times a day on an empty stomach. I used to eat 6 times a day, and now I am down to 3 because of Elmiron. I don't want to lose anymore weight.

Haven't heard of it being available as an injection. You may want to talk with your doc and see if you can change your dose to take it twice a day. Several of us on Elmiron do that and it's a bit easier to schedule taking it that way instead of 3 times daily. Also, some will take Elmiron with a bit of food to reduce some of the side effects. Maybe you can ask your doc if taking one of your 3 doses with a snack is ok.

I take Elmiron by mouth and also get it injected into my bladder.

I go once a week for the injection into the bladder. you can do it yourself if you feel comfortable doing it yourelf. I myself have a hard time with it and my bladder also goes into spasams so I find it easier to pay my weekly co payment to have the Dr. do the injection. As far as pain, it hurts while it is being inserted, they can numb it to help take the edge off.

It may be possible to take two capsules twice daily.

    Ask your urologist.

My urologist informed me that the injections move you along faster then taking the elmrion orally. The take 6 capusals and break them into a little bit of water then do the instills through your bladder. Hope this helps with some of your questions.

I take 4 100mg Elmirons a day...2 in the morning and 2 in the evening.I have also had 14 Elmiron in bladder treatments at the dr..they work great! He did this in order to jump start the treatment since I have had I.C. for 37 years..My poor bladder is very damaged, but it is the best it's ever been or probably going to get..but I have only been on Elmiron 3 months..

Yes, the dr uses a cathader and pours the Elmiron mixed with heprin right into my bladder. I lay on the table for 15 minutes and then I am supposed to pee it out. I usually wait until I get home to pee.

One question that I am curious of and that I never asked the Dr. is why does it have to be taken on an empty stomach. Does is not do the trick if you have eaten? anybody know?

I am "Assuming" that they don't want the medicine to " Compete" with food, as that could interfer with absorbtion....If taken on an empty tummy it goes straight through to the kidneys and into the bladder..
