I'm on Elmiron and have been since Dec of 2003. I have no idea whether it's helping because I have so many other problems. I do know that if you try it that it can take up to 6 months to start noticing any difference. I do feel better since aI've been on all the meds. I'm still in so much pain but it would be 10x worse if I stopped them all. I can tell when I miss a dose OUCH! Take care - Chris

Hi,
I have been on Elmiron for 9 months..I felt good so Uro told me I could cut back .. I did and ended up in a long lasting flare.. I saw my family Dr and he told me to go back to the full dose.. I have and feel good again.. I still get flares but not as often..
I think elmiron has really helped me...And I can eat Strawberries with no problem.. Yahoooooo!!

I have been on Elmiron for almost 3 years with no side effects other than feeling normal now most of the time. (And I am back to eating whatever I want....) It doesn't work for everyone - but for those it helps it's a blessing.
Kim
Diagnosed August 2001
Current IC meds: Elmiron (since 2001), Levaquin (one pill after intercourse to prevent UTIs), Effexor (for depression & anxiety)
Past IC meds: Amitriptyline (Elavil), Hydroxyzine (Vistaril), Detrol LA, Lexapro (for depression & anxiety, but also helped my IC) (They all helped, but I was able to discontinue them.)
My IC story: http://www.ic-network.com/patientstories/kim.html It's very outdated now. I've been virtually symptom free and able to eat & drink whatever I'd like for about 8 years now.
