    Swollen lymph nodes

I have recently been diagnosed with IC. I've had an extremely swollen lymph node right under my ear and it has been there for 3 months. I have talked to my gyno about it, but she doesn't know what is causing it. No primary care physicians take my insurance so I haven't been able to get a regular doctor to check it out. The lymph node doubled in size over night and now my ear hurts really bad. I've read in a few places that swollen glands are a symptom of IC, but can't find a lot of information about it. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced swollen glands. Thanks!

You really need to see a doctor about swollen glands that last that long. It sounds like you may have an ear infection --- very painful but usually easily fixed. I haven't seen any studies indicating swollen glands as an IC symptom. If you can't find a primary care physician, you might try an urgent care center or ER.

One sided? I think you need to go see a Dr. swollen glands shouldn't stay swollen that long.

You should have it checked out, it could be nothing, but I am not sure what.

I get swollen glands when I ovulate and my IC also flares at that time of month too. I feel it on one side more than the other and it makes my ears ache - sort of a stuffy full feeling in my ear. I also get migraines that hurt more on that one side too. Having said all that, I do agree with the responses, get it checked out - it sounds like it could be something else.

I went to the doctor and it turns out I did have an ear infection, but the lymph nodes weren't related because they are still swollen. The doctor says I need to get checked for certain cancers, such as Lymphoma. It's scary, but I go at the end of the month. Thanks for your input everyone.

Lymph nodes can remain swollen for several weeks after an infection. Try not to panic. I do think it's good that your doctor is being thorough.

I did get a swollen painful gland/lymph node in my throat, under my ear at the exact moment my IC symptoms started, about 4 1/2 yrs ago, and it lasted for a long time. I also got some sort of strange "herpes infection? " on the tip of my nose for the frist time in my life and it didn't heal for several weeks. It has returned twice since then on the exact same spot. I also get painful glands every now and then under my ear, they are not always very swollen but painful, so in my case it is something that comes and goes and I have not been able to find the reason so far...though it could be a symptom of CFS and other conditions I suspect I may have in addition to IC. I hope you can find out the reason and that it's nothing serious.

Yeah. I had to go back to the doctor today and I have to get a biopsy done soon. Hopefully it's no big deal.

Also FYI I get swollen lymph nodes if I have any canker sores in my mouth and they'll last for several weeks. Get that biopsy done as soon as you can and let us know! Sending healing wishes your way! - Jill

I agree with Jill. Waiting for a biopsy is not a fun time; the sooner it's done, the sooner you will know. And be sure to tell us the results.
