How long does it take to flare?

Wondering, how you can tell what caused a flare. For example, if you ate something that may affect your IC, when would you start flaring. It's hard sometimes to tell what causes it. Whether it was an activity, a food I ate, or stress.

    Hi,

For me it is all very variable. I think in order to really know, especially food, you need to an elimination diet. When I did this I found out my problem foods so if I have an unexpected flare I think back about what I ate and do a process of elimination. For example I was following a very strict diet but I kept having flares. I realized that the hummus I was eating regularly had lemon juice in it, which I knew was a problem for me.

In regards to timing, it is variable for me again. If I have 1 strawberry or anything tomato, I flare after 1-2 hours and it lasts all day. If I have mild Indian food for dinner, I usually start flaring near bedtime and it lasts for days. Activity is even harder and I only know with practice. Sometimes though I did not do anything and I still flare.

Honestly I wish I had better advice but it is all about learning your own body and the timing of your own flares.

Thank you that does help. I was just a little curious, but that makes me feel more secure getting a second opinion. Wasn't sure if it was just me or not, lol. Thank you for your support.
