Oklahoma City Urologists
Hello I am currently looking for a urologist in the Oklahoma
City area. Is there anyone that can reccommend one that knows IC well and is pretty compassionate? I need a second opinion
And feel like IC is getting progressively worse. Thanks

Hi! I live in Ponca City and we only 2 uros here and only one of them will see IC patients. He's not real knowledgeable and will not let me do home instills. I just saw a new uro today recommended to me by Kdub on here. He is Dr. Williams Barnes at Integris Southwest Medical Center. I loved them! They are up on all the latest IC treatments and concurrent illnesses. They spent almost 3 hours with me doing exams, discussing my history and figuring out a plan for me. For the first time in a long time I feel hopeful that there will something we can do to help me. I have been in a bad flare up for a year now! I've also hear that Dr. Parkhurst in Bethany is excellent. There is also a uro/gyn with OU Medical Center who treats IC and all the pelvic floor issues that come with it. You have to have a referral to get in to them.
Hope this helps!!Live life to the fullest day to day. The best way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time!

I go to Dr. Daniel Culkin at the OU Med Center. I really like him. He has an associate who also treats IC I think. I know for sure Dr. Culkin does. He is only at his office at the OU Physician Building on Mondays though. I think he has an office at the OU Med Center in Edmond. The two doctors are really really good from what I hear. Dr. Culkin was the closes to me seeing that I live in far SE Oklahoma City.

Thank you
Thank you both for your replies. I am looking for someone in the OKC area and Ponca city would definitely be out of my area, plus small town doctors aren't always up to date with treatments, but hey I may be wrong.
As far as the one at OU, I am not a fan of the Urologists up that way. I had a very horrible experience with the one you mentioned when I was younger and its so funny how they list his office as an IC research center.
I need a second opinion because my IC has gotten to the point where none of my medications are managing the pain or symptoms. I don't understand this disease nor why some people progressively get worse.
I am almost afraid of what is going on because for awhile I was doing well, but nothing stays the same forever.
Has anyone heard of Dr. Parkhurst in Bethany?

I totally understand your opinion of him. I've had some really bad experiences with doctors that I have gone to. My husband keep telling me to give them another chance but I just can't. Once you've had a bad experience with a doctor you will always be leery of them. Dr. Culkin is in his office at the OU Physicians Building only one day a week now and even I'm thinking about going somewhere else. His interstim reprogrammer is getting tired of me coming in to be reprogramed so often. He wanted be to start taking a small dose of Detrol LA because I still have a little bit of that gotta go feeling still there. I have Sjogren's so I can't take those kinds of medicines. We will see what the future holds. I've heard the Dr. Parkhurst is great. Thought about going to see him myself when all this started but I live in SE Oklahoma City and I think he's in Bethany. Kind of too far to drive. That's why I picked Dr. Culkin. Hope you find someone you like and can work with. Take care.

Dr. Parkhurst works out of Bethany. I highly recommend him.
Lord grant me the serenity to except the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.
