Kettle chips with salt and sunflower oil....

I have been eating the baked Kettle chips with salt and sunflower oil but I'm not sure if that is hurting me either. That's interesting that you had that reaction. Maybe I should stop eating them. I'm still not sure what causes me pain. This is a very difficult process!

Were the chips you are talking about from Trader Joe's? The "reduced guilt" Kettle Chips?

I have been having some weird problems the last few days while eating all of what I thought was safe. But I may have narrowed it down to these chips giving me problems

Onset of symptoms 1/04 after laproscopic appendectomy
Diagnosed with prostatitis 3/04, again 6/04, again 9/04, went through various cycles of anti-biotics.
Self diagnosed with PFD 6/05, received PT on and off for a year with good results but recurring symptoms.
Self diagnosed with IC 2/07, officially diagnosed via potasium test 3/07

    Current meds:

    Uracyst
    Benedryl

    Having great results with Uracyst

Yes..I did the same thing ! It's like putting salt all over a wound...watch the salt and you will feel better (no nuts with salt) etc....

Too much salt can cause us to retain fluids, which isn't healthy for anyone. It doesn't bother my bladder at all. I do eat potato chips with no problem.

Yea I eat potato chips all the time with no problems either. But this particular time at Trader Joe's they were out of the normal ones, and I got the reduced guilt chips which have Sunflower Oil. I started having some symptoms over the last few days and had no idea what to attribute it to, but, I had been eating those chips. So when I saw this thread referring to chips with sunflower oil naturally I was curious if they were the same.

I have had perhaps the worse flare of my life recently. I was having spasms every 5 mins and bleeding after each one. I have had IC since I was 17 (i'm 39 now) and I've always been careful about what i eat and try to drink lots of water because that's seems to work for keeping flares at bay. This past week however, I had indulged in a couple large bags of potato chips (yeah I'm blushing just typing this). It was Lays plain ones but I'm convinced they were the culprit to my nasty flare. They were the only thing different to my diet that I can remember. I'm definitely staying away from them for now on!

Unfortunately, potato chips do not cause me any problems. I wish they did and then I could stay away from them. My favorite are Ruffles with ridges.

I'm okay as long as they bag is not open. Once they are open, I can't stay away from them.

Ooh I like ruffles too!! Once I heal, I may introduce them in much smaller quantities. For now, the pain scared me away! It is nice that we have this forum for people who understand what it is to have IC.

I like the Trader Joe's popchips (plain ones). I'm ok with the Lays Classic chips and original Pringles. I do try not to eat chips on their own, rather as a part of a meal with a beverage. Overall, I'm ok with potato chips, but my pant size is not. It's painful to see myself in the mirror - have gained sooo much weight with IC and stress.

Overdoing anything seems to really annoy the bladder. And yes, Rachelle, we are so dang sensitive sometimes that it is shocking to people who don't have IC. (Ask me about how certain brands of WATER, yes WATER, peeve my bladder! Who'd ever believe that?!!)

I have found that the baked chips seem to have less salt. Just to be safe, I only enjoy 7 to 10 at a time. Thus far i've done ok with the Lays brand baked.

Yes, it was definitely the amount of chips. Sometimes I get caught up and forget how overindulging can lead to lots of pain! I have been eating wheat crackers (plain) and although I'm still hurting from the flare, they don't seem to cause any additional pain. I'm more surprised at the level of pain from this last one as to the mere fact of having a flare. I have one maybe two a year but never at this intensity and its taking much longer to heal this time too. I'm sure it has to do with my age!!
