hummus salad dressing
Hummus salad dressing
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/2 can garbanzo beans (drained and rinsed)
1/3 cup + 1 tbsp water
2 tbs tahini (sesame seed paste) or natural almond butter (preferably one that does not contain sugar or other ingredients besides salt)
1-2 cloves garlic
1 tsp paprika (optional)
1/4 cup fresh chopped parsley or kale, or 1 tbs dry parsley
Throw everything except parsley in a blender and puree til smooth. Adjust liquids or add more beans to make it to your desired thickness.
Stir in parsley by hand. Drizzle it on salads, avocado, or whatever, and garnish with paprika (optional).In remission since Aug 2009!

What helped me get to and stay in remission? stress reduction, diet, time, meditation, stress reduction, stress reduction, stress reduction!--I no longer take medications for IC, PFD,VV, anxiety, or depression. Making career and lifestyle changes to reduce stress and learning techniques to manage anxiety set the stage for my bladder to heal.
My history: No history of bladder issues***Onset of IC and VV sxs Nov 2003***Diagnosed Nov 2004 based on symptoms and hydro/biopsy results***Cysto-Hydro did not give therapeutic relief, I had complications and long recovery
***Hunner's Ulcers found and removed during hydro***Symptoms: the usual~pain, burning, spasms, frequency, urgency, nocturia, lower back and upper thigh pain, very bloated "IC Belly"
Treatments that helped my IC,VV,& PFD symptoms: pyridium, elavil, tylenol 3, ibuprofen, lidocaine gel and patches, cold packs, heating pad, diet, lots of water

Tried:
Detrol:only took one pill and it made me sick
Elmiron:caused horrible pain(took 1 week)
CystaQ:caused alot of burning and pain(only took one pill)
Wellbutrin:only on it for three days as it caused alot of bladder pain
Elavil:Took one pill and it caused a flare that lasted almost two weeks. It was the longest flare I've ever had. Never again..ouch
Prelief:made my bladder burn and feel tingly.
Take:
Uracyst:Started May 19 2011
Enablex:take one pill daily with no issues
Naproxen:for pain as needed
Baking Soda with water:as needed and it's a God send. It brings down my pain within 20 mins.
Venofer: Started April 2012 1X a week by IV for low Iron. I do not tolerate oral Iron so this is the route I had to take.Does not bother my bladder but I do have other side effects. Benedryl helps.
Supplements:Vitamin E,Lauricidin,dehydrated Liver(TLIP),fish oil,Kyo greens
Whey Protein powder daily

Thanks! I've been enjoyng it lately drizzled on a pita stuffed with sprouts, avocado, cucumber, and shredded carrots. I've found I prefer to make it with more water and less than half the oil than what the recipe calls for.
In remission since Aug 2009!

I make hummus too, and it comes out really thick, good idea to thin it out for a dressing! I also put white kidney beans and recently put artichoke hearts that are kept in water. The white Kidney beans make it a little smoother, and the artichoke hearts make it have a little bite, which i missed with the lemon. Makes a great spread for sandwiches, and my husband just used it to make chicken salad! YUMMY!
Let me know if anyone wants the recipe, i'll post it on a separate thread!
Yeay!!! I love coming up with new ways to eat the things I love!
