    Iud

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone could tell me their experiences with an IUD. Im looking in to getting a non hormonal one right now, because the pill seems to mess with my hormones. I still need a form of BC because Im not ready to have a baby just yet!

Or does anyone have a BC pill that works really well for them? What about the "mini" pill-- with just progesterone?

I HATE condoms, and they irritate me as well... help!

    25 yrs old,

Flaring: 20-25 x's, raw feeling in my urethra just before urinating.

On a regular day: My frequency is normal 5-8 x's

I have little to no problems now with my bladder, unless I am very stressed out, I forget to take Elmiron for a few days, or I eat or drink something that I know is a trigger...(i.e) like eating a tomato or drinking tea.... Took a long time to get here, but it IS possible to feel good again I just want people who are new to know that IT CAN get better, and for every one person who is suffering, there are hundreds of others who feel GREAT because they have control of thier IC.

What Works: Tylenol 3's, Pyridium, Elmiron (Going on 14 months now!) HOT showers!!!

    Medications/ Vitamins: Elmiron-100mg 4x's daily Tylenol 3's/Advil and PROBIOTICS!

    Me in my graduation gown!

    Hi Jinny
When my IC and VV were symptomatic I was able to use lambskin condoms. They didn't cause additional irritation...unlike latex, which I am highly sensitive to. Good luck.
    In remission since Aug 2009!
New to IC? read this--IC Treatment and Diagnostic Guidelines--American Urological Association

    *** http://www.auanet.org/content/guidel...ent_ic-bps.pdf
What helped me get to and stay in remission? stress reduction, diet, time, meditation, stress reduction, stress reduction, stress reduction!--I no longer take medications for IC, PFD,VV, anxiety, or depression. Making career and lifestyle changes to reduce stress and learning techniques to manage anxiety set the stage for my bladder to heal.
My history: No history of bladder issues***Onset of IC and VV sxs Nov 2003***Diagnosed Nov 2004 based on symptoms and hydro/biopsy results***Cysto-Hydro did not give therapeutic relief, I had complications and long recovery ***Hunner's Ulcers found and removed during hydro***Symptoms: the usual~pain, burning, spasms, frequency, urgency, nocturia, lower back and upper thigh pain, very bloated "IC Belly"
Treatments that helped my IC,VV,& PFD symptoms: pyridium, elavil, tylenol 3, ibuprofen, lidocaine gel and patches, cold packs, heating pad, diet, lots of water

I have the Mirena, which predates my IC problems. Neither my OB nor my URO wanted me to have it removed.

I have the mirena and it works very well. I have taken every type of BC including pills of all different types, nuvaring, depo provera and now IUD. The IUD was my last resort. I think it is a good option because you dont have to take pills or worry about its effectiveness. Although it has hormones in it my gyn said it has a localized effect and does not go into the bloodstream. I don't have periods anymore and my cramps and period pain has decreased. I am also on yaz to keep my hormones at the same lvl all the time and to help with my PCOS. Yaz also works very well. I took it before for 2 years and had to discontinue it because my insurance wouldnt cover it.
    Diagnosis: IC '09, vulvodynia '10, fructose intolerance '06, GERD '06, fibromyalgia '09, IBS '10 and TMJ '09, PCOS '11, genital herpes '12

Current Meds: Butrans patch, valtrex, yaz and diflucan as needed.

Meds tried before: Elmiron, elavil, antibiotics, welbutrin, cymbalta, prozac, nerve blocks, instills, nyastatin, flexerol, percocet, naproxen (which was what I was given for pain for years).
