    Red face Bladder Inflamation?????????

Has anyone been told they had an inflammed bladder, but not IC? My urologist told me after my cystoscopy 3 years ago my bladder was inflamed. He said to just watch caffeine intake to avoid it flaring up. He said I do not have IC last week at my visit. He also said you have to have a biopsy on your bladder to diagnose. Any feedback? I don't want to have IC so this is good news, but I would like to know what is going on with me.

It's possible that what you have is IC. If avoiding coffee is helping, you might want to have a look at the IC diet food list and eliminate other problem foods and drinks. You'll find the link in my signature below.

Thank you. I've been following the diet for about a week. I noticed yesterday the frequency is reduccing. That is a blessing. Even if it isn't IC the diet can't be a bad thing. I am actually very surprised how much of my favorite foods are okay on the diet. Thanks for the advice!

I think this might fall under the heading of there's more than one way to skin a cat. I am not a doctor and have no idea as to what procedures are absolutely necessary, but I do know that a whole lot of people are diagnosed without ever having a biopsy. I wonder if this isn't more your doctor's diagnostic procedure of choice rather than a necessity?

Did your doctor suggest what he thought the underlying cause of your inflammation might be? Having found the inflammation during a cysto three years ago kind of says to me you're dealing with some sort of long term condition.

It sounds like the diet may be helping you which is great. My IC seems to be mainly triggered by diet so that one little change has been a life-saver for me.

I think you might want to get a second opinion. Inflammation can be part of IC. Did you read the new guidelines? see my link below (there is a link to a PDF there also). You certainly don't need a biopsy to diagnose IC, there is a great flowchart on page 19 of the pdf that outlines diagnosing and treating IC. Do you have other symptoms?
I have been diagnosed mild IC based on symptoms of frequency, pressure, discomfort. My in office cystoscopy did not show anything unusual but I was started on the IC diet and elmiron and have been offered instillations which I am waiting to see if the Elmiron works for me.

The frustrating part of what he is telling you is that he won't treat you for it, is that correct?
