Numbness??
Hi, I am currently living in Alberta, Canada. I was diagnosed with IC in 1997 was in pain for a year, then seemed to go away, with minor flares right before my period. This year, it came back with a vengeance after a taking a host of antibiotics, as well as, hormonal imbalance due to early menopause. My IC is so bad now that I can only urinate a little bit throughout the day. The only time I seem to empty my bladder is the first thing in the morning. However, as the day progresses my bladder gets fuller, and I urinate little by little, and now the urge to pee is diminished. The emergency physician gave me Percocet for the pain, and I feel numbness in my urethra. I am now becoming concerned as the urge to pee is becoming less and less, unless I am off my feet and allow my body to relax. I try to relax when I first start to pee, but then I force it out, because I am afraid if I don't it won't empty. Presently, I am on Cipro as a prophalaxis, as I am scared to death I will get an infection. I have been to the hospital twice, but all my urine tests, including the dip and culture have come back with nothing, except once their was blood, but they would not admit me, nor call in a Urologist consult. I AM SOO FRUSTRATED. I am contacting my former Urologist on Tuesday to see if I can get an emergency appointment. My husband and I are considering going to Montana to see a Urologist. Anybody else experienced what I am going through, my anxiety is so high I have to take Ativan. Help?

I'm so sorry you're in such a difficult spot. One thing I do suggest is to avoid straining. It will only make it worse. I think it's good you'll be seeing a urologist you know.
