Ideas for Salad Dressings?
I'm getting tired of years of olive oil and I eat salad a lot. Everything seems to have either lemon juice or vinegar or catsup. All ideas very welcome!:woohoo:

I like pear or blueberry juice mixed with a little canola oil. I put this on baby romaine lettuce or spinach, with chopped dates, chopped pears, or blueberries & feta cheese on top of the salad.
I also find the more "stuff" I put on the salad, the less I miss the dressing. I put Safeway Organics garbanzo or kidney beans, sliced hard boiled egg, shredded carrots, chopped cauliflower & broccoli on the lettuce. I vary the types of lettuces also. I usually use a little half teaspoonful of Marie's Lite Creamy Ranch dressing on the side of the plate & dip my fork in it before bites of salad to get the most flavor with the least dressing. I take Prelief with it. Marie's Lite Creamy Ranch is found in the refrigerator section of the produce dept of grocery stores like Safeway, Lucky's, etc.Kadi

I take a small carton of cottage cheese and whole milk to desired consistency and throw it in the blender along with 1 clove fresh chopped garlic, some dill, parsley and if you can tolerate it a little dried chopped onion. Salt/pepper to taste and store in fridge. It makes enough for a few days and the best part is there's no oil which in my case I am trying to cut back on my calories right now.
Symptoms: Increased pain with activity (especially lower leg work and bending over); stabbing urethral pain, menstrual cramp pain, cannot wear tight pants, feel worse during spring/summer allergy season. The combo of things that brought me out of remission were artificial sweetners, liquid vitamins with citric acid, tight pants, lower body workouts and stopping all my allergy meds cold turkey during height of allergy season. I wish I knew back then what I know now about IC
First IC symptoms Spring of 2000; In-office cystoscopy 2002 -negative; Remission until 2007 (yeah!!); Negative PST spring of 2007
IC diagnosed via Cystoscopy and Hydrodistention 7/24/07; Another In-office cystoscopy 4/9/10 with biopsy showed inflammation
Treatments for my IC/PFD:
Elmiron 400 mg per day; Physical Therapy for PFD; Zyrtec; Singulair
Ice packs and laying down
Tried and Failed: Heparin instills -too painful for my urethra; Atarax (interfered with my quality of sleep first time, second time dried my bladder out; Elavil makes me sick, lidocaine patches, Cystoprotek (only tried a couple months but didn't seem to do much)
Other Diagnoses: PFD diagnosed 9/09; Fibromyalgia
Gastroparesis (delayed gastric emptying) Anxiety
Other medications: Ambien, Zegerid, Ativan, Zyrtec

Do a block of cream cheese in the blender with 6-7 TBSP of milk. (Good for sour cream substitute) then add spices you can tolerate. I add dill week, garlic powder and salt. A great dressing - almost like Ranch. I use for sandwhiches, salad, egg salad, potato salad and the sour cream for anything that calls for that.
I didn't make this up - someone on this board posted it long ago - whoever it is is welcome to take credit for it. I don't take credit, but I sure do love it.Dawn

salad dressings
I recently read on this forum about Bubbies pickles made without vinegar.
I found them in the local health food store just this week. I tried them on a sandwich and they are good.
I think they would make a nice addition to some of the above suggestions for salad dressings, chopped very, very fine. I plan to use them in chicken salad and potato salad.

Some of Newman's Own are pretty safe too. They has a poppy seed dressing that is pretty good, the creamy ones seem to be friendlier for sure, and you don't need a lot. A blueberry vinegarette made with apple cider vinegar (if you can tolerate) is also tasty.

If you can do sesame seeds, tahini dressings are yummy. Tahini is just pureed sesame seeds and nothing else.
If you can do soy this looks like a good one (tamari is soy sauce that usually has no wheat)
Believe it or not, tahini is pretty good as a mayonnaise replacement in things like tuna fish salad. And if you plop some of that on top of your salad, you really don't *need* dressing to go with it.Mom to two littles (remissions while pregnant/breastfeeding)

Yes, the cream cheese is really good. Been using it for years. I take a heaping scoop, pop it in the microwave for 10 sec, add a tad of milk, some seasonings that I can tolerate and presto...yummy salad dressing!
I'm Perfectly Imperfect and Praying for Remission

I've made a sesame oil, honey, and garlic dressing that is really good with a spinach and pear salad.
