Protein Bars? Agave nectar or spirulina?
I've been looking for replacements for my protein bars and granolas since they all seem to have something bad in them for my IC, and have been looking into some at organic stores. A lot of the ones that look good are Vegan-friendly, and have some ingredients that are natural, but aren't on the food list. Is agave nectar okay? Or date sugar? How about spirulina? Does anyone have any suggestions for protein/nutrition bars that are IC-friendly?

You can make your own simple protein bars
MEAL REPLACEMENT BARS
Makes 6 bars
1 cup raw oatmeal
5 scoops of protein powder (use New Zealand Natural Whey Protein powder)
1/4 cup cream cheese
1/2 cup dry milk powder
2 egg whites
1/4 cup water
1 1/2 bananas, mashed
2 tsp. canola oil (this is the secret to moist bars instead of the traditional dry bar)
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Spray a 9x9 square pan with cooking spray & set aside. In a medium bowl combine oatmeal, Protein powder & dry milk. Set aside. In another bowl beat together with an electric hand mixer, cream cheese, egg whites, bananas, water & oil. Add the oat mixture & continue to beat until the two are combined. Pour batter into the prepared pan & bake for 30-35 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
Can also add whatever nuts and/or fruit you want.

I bake with agave nectar and date sugar all the time...no issue!! Just know that agave nectar is quite strong sweetener, so you use less. Agave nectar is also very low on the glycemic ...so it is a slow release, so you do not get a "high or low" in your blood sugar levels.
As far as your SPIRULINA...?? i was wanting to know the same thing?? anyone know??
