Question How much D-mannose is too much?

    Hello all!

Ok, so I started taking d-mannose powder about two weeks ago...I had a lot of success with it from the very beginning, it took me from the point of tears to halfway normal in about two days...But here is my question, I have been taking more than the bottle tells you to from the very beginning, and my current dosage is; 1 tsp 6 times a day,...that is keeping me functional, almost normal, but is that too much? Is there such a thing as too much of this stuff? Does anyone know?

    Thanks in advance

D-mannose is a sugar. You don't even metabolize it and it is directly secreted in your urine. You absolutely cannot have too much of it or overdose. I'm thrilled to hear it is helping you :woohoo:

Considering the cost of it, you are taking more than you need. If you you are feeling better then a maintenance dose of one tsp twice daily should do the trick. I personally take 1/2 tsp twice daily and it has helped me a lot.

If you're taking any other medications, you really need to ask your doctor about this. It's not usually a good idea to exceed the recommended dosage of alternative medications.

I'm glad this seems to be helping you.

    Hey guys!

I do plan on asking my doc the next time I see her just in case,...the only negative thing I have heard at all so far is that if you take waaaaaay to much it might put a strain on your kidneys...(but so does darpaz...sooo....) but I do also want to drop back to that maintainance dose asap...just haven`t had the guts yet.

    Thanks!

    Hi Mrs. Mack1985,
Not too sure if you are still looking at your posts but I am wondering how you have been doing? I am thinking of starting your list of remedies but am wondering if you are doing better or worse? And which one did you think helped you the most??

MrsMack1985- I take the powder form of DMannose and I take 1-2 tsp a day. Thats the recommended dosage. follow the dosing instructions. You sound like you are probaly taking much more than you really need to
Diagnosed with IC October 2009- through bladder biopsy (no glomerations or hunners ulcers found, just irritation)

    I have moderate-severe IC

Currently stopped taking all medications due to pregnancy

    Hi everyone!

Sorry I haven`t posted in awhile, I have still been doing really well, thanks to the supplements I have been taking. I would definitely go so far as to still call this 100% better. If I had to chose between the words "remission" or "cured" though that would be hard only because I am afraid to say I feel I`m cured....but truthfully, taking these supplements has put me in the position of feeling like I am cured.

To answer everyone`s questions, the two things that have helped me the most are 1; D-mannose and 2; Caprylic acid. (dosages are listed in my signature)

The reason for this is that my IC was being caused by a combination of a constant low-grade UTI and a systemic yeast infection. The D-mannose has cleared up the UTI, the Caprylic acid takes care of the yeast.

As for dosing, I was concerned at first but after finding out what D-mannose really is, (a simple sugar, not well metabolized by humans) I am no longer afraid of overdose or any future concerns from taking too much of it.

I took more than directed to start with to get rid of existing infection, and that is what I would recommend to anyone when they first take it. I was taking 1tsp every 3-4 hours while battling infection, if I had not done that, I would never have gotten rid of my long-standing UTI. I am now taking what the package says 1tsp twice daily, since my UTI is gone. I did a lot of research on this aspect after I first posted this, and every quote I could find from a medical professional on this said the same thing.

D-mannose eliminated my pain because my IC was caused by a long-standing, low-grade UTI,...I think many cases of IC are like mine, but not all. If your problem is bacteria, it should help you.

Hope it helps, hugs to all.

Hi I have uti's and plan on buying some D-Mannose while I am overseas next week as it's not available in my country..my question is...For those who know, how long does a bottle of D-Mannose (2.5 oz) last when you take 2-3 spoonfuls a day? I need to know so I have a better idea of how many I should purchase. Thanks.
