Why does it hurt to wear anything tight?
Just wondering why my belly area hurts too? Does the bladder radiate pain into the skin area? ANYTHING, even semi-tight pants hurt around my waist. Can anyone tell me why?

I know I can't wear tight clothing. Even if I'm not flaring, the bladder area is tender. Putting pressure on my tender bladder area (tight at the waist pushes down too). If you think about it, if you have a bad, sore, bruise, it will hurt to press on it.

Everything is so close together in the pelvis area anything pressing on any part can press on another part. When my children were small I remember wondering why it hurt so bad to have them sit on my lap.
I wear mens boxers and pj bottoms at home for comfort, around the neigbour hood I am known as heff.

Tight clothing puts a lot a pressure on my bladder too. Around the house I wear sweats a lot. I rarely wear jeans and when I do I always make sure they have a strech waist band.

So, for all of you, even if you are not flaring it still hurts to wear jeans? I have tried wearing jeans once and it caused so much pain I won't do it again. I guess it is like pushing on a bruise. (Good analogy). But, it stinks because for the first time in my life I'm like a size 5 and would like to not wear the baggy pants all the time.

Hi Teresa, I could not wear jeans when I was first diagnosed, but over time and as I've gotten better I'm able to wear jeans again & do wear them most days now. Some brands/styles work better than others & I wear them looser than I did pre-IC.
When my IC was at its worst, I wore loose dresses, long skirts with knee-high boots, or sweats, changing immediately into drawstring pajamas as soon as I got home at night.
Hopefully as you find treatments that work, you'll be able to wear your jeans again....Kadi

PS. When I wore the long skirts with boots or sandals, I often wore big hoop earrings and I tried to buy skirts that had some embroidery on them or cute short waisted jackets, so I felt I had more of a "style". It made me feel better somehow...

I personally can't stand pants and jeans, so its easy for me. I am one of those girly girl types. Love dresses, skirts and heels. I love the feminity and the fact that I can be a little bloated or on my period or whatever and still look good. Skirts and dresses not only look great, but they hide a multitude of sins and are so much more comfortable and flowy. I hate tight fitting stuff and pants...ouch! To me that's like riding a bike all day.

I think I need to clarify a little. So no one thinks I'm, well, ya know, questionable
. I don't mean skin tight. I mean like elastic. My husband actually cut all my pants with elastic and loosened them to fit like sweat pants (can't beat that in a guy). I complain about him, but God love him! Any pressure there seems to bring on a flare or make one much worse. I have never been a dress girl, unless I was going somewhere special with my husband. I just would like some normalcy back. WHEN?????

Well, I am in remission...and wearing jeans in the past (when flaring was a total no no) and wearing jeans now i still do with moderation. I can wear them, but definitely feel more comfortable in my elastic band pants. Thankgod I work in the fitness industry and my work attire is work out clothes.
But on occasion I do wear jeans, but I certainly must admit at the end of the day I LOVE taking them off and changing back into my elastic pants.
I know REITMANS sells great jeans and cords with an elastic waist band, they are amazing....and they LOOK LIKE real pants (meaning the ones with the zipper and button up)....check'em out they are also very reasonably priced!
Peace

Hi Teresa
thanks for your expression of happiness for me.
I certainly feel very blessed and grateful for how I am feeling.
You know I should post my remission story, and my progress of how I became where I am now. It was a journey of self discovery and patience and keeping self confident through the process knowing I would heal with time.
Here is a bit of a rundown....I am on NO medication for IC. When first diagnosed almost two years ago (it will be two years this june 2010) I was provided pain killers and elmirion from my doctor. I refused to take them...I wanted more answers. I had never heard of IC and I felt I wanted a better answer, not just a prescription to meds.
I was also provided a referral to a urologist (A highly respected one)....I saw him too, and he provided the advice of a bladder distention. He was so kind and compassionate.
But I still felt these were not my answers that I wanted. The more I read on bladder distention and their reliability, and how they were truly only helping those 50 percent of the time with their symptoms, and causing flares in some making symptoms worse....I opted to NOT do this either.
In the end I made the decision to go to a naturopath. I took her advice and her healing ritual of UNDA drops and they worked for me. THEY stopped my constant peeing of every 10 minutes, and eased up on my bladder pain and pressure. I felt I was on the road to healing.
I then started acupuncture, and physio therapy with a trained person in pelvic floor dysfunction dealing with IC patients. She used a new technology on me with infa-red lazer treatment and his was in my opionion what truly brought me to the next level of healing. This machine is normally used on patients with injuries to shoulders or back dealing with inflammation...etc...she used it on my bladder area and vaginal area. IT helped tremendously.
As far as meds go, I TOOK none. I did take natural supplements for about 8 months. I took omega 3's, magnesium, glucosimine, aloe vera juice, (a few others I am not remember right now....but will get the names if you are interested)....RIGHT NOW I take only my omega's magnesium, and calcium, and a good probiotic.
I am pain free, and it feels amazing, wonderful, makes me want to do cartwheels! It was a long journey, because I really had not support of my doctors at the beginning. They were a bit impatient with me because I did nto want to take the prescription....but they are amazed at pleased now to see where I have progressed on my own.
I EAT the IC diet, and I do not take any foods that are irritating. I eat very whole foods, and a lot of raw food diet items. I do not eat anything processed (I never did anyway)...MY DIET is a huge part of my healing. Eating foods very rich in vitamens and nutrients.
I do A lot of YOGA, this is a HUGE part of my healing. Being a yoga instructor it was very easy to incorporate this into my lifestyle in order to help ease my pain and heal me to where I am today. This did not happen over night...it took me a little over a year to get where I am today.
I hope this helps, and if you have any questions, please feel free to email.
((HUGS))
Peace
Blue
