    Question Bovine Colostrum?

Has anyone used Bovine colostrum as a supplement? I read about it and decided right away to try it since it seemed to have dramatic results for at least one person on a certain website. She claims to not need to take anything anymore and can eat or drink anything she wants after having IC for about 8 years, and using Colostrum among other things. I am trying it, even though I don't know yet if I have IC, but I figured it can't hurt to start early if I do. It's supposed to be great for the immune system, and I think my adrenals probably are pretty stressed right now through all this, so maybe it will help me. Anyone out there try that stuff, or Quercetin, or Grapefruit seed extract, or alkalizing drops for water?? Thanks for any advice on these....

My suggestion is to work with your physician to help with your symptoms. If you're intending to spend money on colostrum, I suggest you read the information at quackwatch.org first. This product is touted for curing everything from cancer to AIDS.

And I suggest you be very cautious about believing testimonials; I could write about one a minute on almost any subject. If the site is selling the product, look elsewhere for the proof. And ask about clinical trials.

    bovine so be careful

I never dish someone's cure because we are so unique (unless you think the company is lying which they could be) but I would be careful that any bovine supplement is not contaminated with mad cow disease. If it is a high quality company than they should provided you with manufacturing information. Good luck. PV
42 years IC. 2013 tried liposome instillations at California Stem Cell TC and the pain I guess from the catheter was too much. I tried 3 times. I am going to stick with trying a few old medications for now - hyomax and try vaginal valium. I still think herbs are so much safer than drugs.(I took an overview course a few years ago.) But there is so much little research on herbal remedies for this complex disease and people in pain need help as soon as possible, therefore RX drugs are necessary. I myself was trying elmiron (after cystoprotek and aloe vera did not seem to coat the bladder for me) Back to herbs, if you think that your IC is caused by histamines and allergies, etc, there are many researched herbs and herb formulas for that type of thing so perhaps that may be a path for you. But since IC is so complex, those herbs may not help. Perhaps if you think you are getting infections, there may be herbs that could deal with chronic, drug resistance problems but you would need some professional guidence. I believe I keep inflammation down by taking cucurmin extract, and other anti-inflammatory herbs - there are many good ones. You SHOULD find some that agree with you and your medication protocol if possible.

I know which website you are looking at. After looking at both and trying several things I think the information here is more sound all around. In fact this site is amazingly helpful (THANK-YOU ALL!!) There are some similarities and those are the things that have helped me:

    Follow the Diet
Cystoprotek -has Quercetin in it (sold here)
    Prelief (sold here)
Good alkaline water--I bought it, didn't try the drops
    Baking soda for flares
    Marshmallow Root Tea

p.s. I would not limit myself from trying new things based solely on quackwatch.org. Do your own research.

My husband is a Chiropractor and helps people everyday in so many ways. If our patients believed the lies and scare tactics of that site they would be in a lot of unnecessary pain.

    Question Thanks!

Thanks a lot for your comments and support! I am feeling great since yesterday, slept all night with only one trip to the bathroom. Am wondering if this is the calm before the storm since I am ovulating right now. I'm only following the diet and taking a few supplements, no meds at all. Is this normal in IC? I'm still not sure I even have it but it sure seemed like it a few days ago.

If you have concerns about the validity of information on that site, I encourage you to look at their Board of Directors. My urologist was the one who pointed me to the site because of all of my questions about what I was reading on the internet.

I know what site you are talking about as well. I never did get on board with what they were selling even though I telephoned them and asked them if it didn't work could I have a refund, and they told me they would. It just seemed to good to be true. We are all so desperate for relief that these websites prey on people like us. I'm not saying that it didn't work for that person, but what I've found is that common sense goes a lot further. When I got first diagnosed I went crazy looking for the miracle cure, and spent a lot of money too!!!! Make sure you try one thing at a time as it gets SOOOO confusing as it is. The best place to start is the diet for more immediate relief, and then branch out from there along with your doctors recommendations. If you aren't happy with your doctor's recommendations then get a second or even third opinion. Good luck!!!!
