List of Foods
Hi guys...can I ask for some info on the IC diet? Im looking for a simple list of do's and don;ts. Im trying a new thing as of today. Im taking everything out of my diet that can cause pain and going to do this til at least saturday and see how I feel..then I will add one thing back at a time see if anything happens...lets me know if anything is flaring it. I dont notice that to be the case...but Ive started my morning coffee-free which is NOT gonna make me a hapy morning person, but I did. Can I have decaf coffee, sugar and milk? And is butter allowed?
Thanks..my email address is:

Congratulations Christine! I find diet my best help. There is a list in our Patient's Handbook - under Diet- go make a copy. Some of the things not mentioned are vitamins, decongestants, some meds, but it's a great place to start. It will probably take more then going till Satruday. Sometimes it takes a couple of weeks. I can do decaf & most have no problem with milk or butter unless diary sensitive. Sugar is also no problem. You go girl!!!!
 And I'll be
that it helps you too. Kathi

I can do decaf if it's mostly milk in the cup with a couple of prelief tablets
Good luck with the diet, sometimes I'm down about it, but then I think of what another IC buddy told me - it's a positive way to help myself heal with no extra financial cost and no side effects!!
Diet has been a huge help to me and I especially appreciate the diet section of the ICN patient handbook part of this website! I just stuck to the far left hand column for a long time & gradually figured out which of those are okay, now I am gently testing the middle column out one food at a time.
Hope you are feeling better soon!

Hello Christine,
I have been very sad lately about the diet myself but then it hit me, you know compared to some other illnesses the Ic diet is not really so bad. I can have half a can of soda with 2 prelief and be ok ( i was/am a coke-a cola fiend) that made me really happy, although I know soda's in general are not good this way I still feel normal. Oranges and fruit are my absolute worst foods, fruit is pain city for me, except I can have half a bannana. Good luck figuring it out it takes time and patience but it really is worth it, it is amazing how much better I feel when i do not hurt my bladder anymore, and for me it gives me some aspect I can have control over. I hate not being in control. Good luck.
