    urine feels hot

Whenever I have a flare, my urine feels HOT as it is coming out. Has anyone noticed that, and does anyone know what causes this. Funny thing is that I never have burning. Krisssy

    Hi Krisssy
Your ? has come up before in the past and it seems that many have experienced what you are feeling. Me included!
I get burning bladder sensations but I do not get urethral burning. My best guess is that our tissues down there (bladder, urethral, vaginal, vulvar) are just hypersensitive and therefore make the urine feel hotter than usual, whether we feel that those tissues are irritated or not. Also I believe that concentrated urine contributes to this sensation, so for me keeping well hydrated to keep urine diluted always helps, not only with this sensation but for ALL of my IC and VV symptoms in general.
What helps me when I get this sensation is to flush vulvar and urethral area with fresh water before, during, after I pee and to use cold packs between the legs when I am flaring from any of my conditions....cold packs my best friend . Or I go in a sitz bath or tub or shower with cool water...that seems to give me relief and make peeing less, well, hot feeling!! Hot feeling being a nuisance, if not more, so I will do anything I can to keep myself from feeling another sensation that drives me nuts!!

I agree with Briza, rinsing off especially after peeing helps me a lot with the hot urine. I only use hypo-allergenic baby wash in the private areas.I think regular body wash makes me more sensitive......something I try to avoid.

I too get this but it does not hurt or bother me, it is just hotter than normal. It is just a reminder from time to time that I have IC. I too wonder why this is.
    Daily Meds:

    IC-Meds
Ditropan XL 5 BID, Elavil 50 QD, Elmiron 200 BID, Hydroxine 50 BID. As Needed: Bacofen 20, Prosed DS, Hydrocodone/Apap.

    Other Meds
    Adderal 10 QD, Remmeron 37 QD (I take 1 1/2 of 25 mg)

With the help of my doctor moving my meds around a bit by increasing this and decreasing that I have found a good combination of meds (for now and I pray a long time from now).

    Hi Sally

Yes, I agree Sally. It doesn't hurt or bother me. It just seems to come when I am in a flare, and I was just wondering why. I mentioned it to my dr. , and he had no response! lol Krisssy

I think it is because the urine has more acid in it.

I think the heat might be from inflammation. When another part of my body is inflamed from injury or infection, it is warmer to the touch and ice helps it feel better. When my husband's gout kicks up, the inflamed spot is very hot and ice helps with that, too.

some people i know sit on ice packs. i haven't but it helps them. what's odd is that drinking cold beverages aggravates IC. so as long as you put cold on the outside...like that fennel.

I have never heard that cold beverages are a problem --- unless the beverage is a soda or other problem liquid. I routinely put ice in my water glass with no problem.

Sometimes cold packs work best for an IC flare, other times heat works best. It's important to get enough water to drink. I find that in summer, drinking water with lots of ice helps me get enough to drink. If you use a cold pack, the urine may feel hot as it passes your cool exterior tissue.

    ice pack

Donna, you may have the answer to my question. Whenever I am in a flare, I sit on ice. I have to check now if it feels hot after sitting on the ice. I'll let you all know. Krisssy

When I have hot urine it usually means I have an infection brewing.

My urine also feels hot after I've been swimming. I think it's just that I'm cooling off the outside of my body.

The cold liquid problem is with IBS, not IC. It flares some people's IBS, but not mine.
