    Question Elmiron and Drowsy/Dopey

    Hi all,

I have started Elmiron - today is my third day.

    My dosage is 3 x 100mg a day.

I haven't had any terrible side effects, so I'm grateful for that.

However, I was wondering if anyone got drowsy/dopey after taking Elmiron?

I find that after my lunch time dose, I feel completely out of it - and I start doing really silly things. It feels like I'm walking around in a fog ...

    Anyone else experienced anything similar?

    Thanks,
    Ally

Nope, never had that happen and I tried taking it 3 different times. Times were far apart but then everyone has different expeirences with pills. Could you just be extra tired after eating lunch? You know sort of like the Thanksgiving sleep after a meal. Even though I have never had that happen.

I have never had any problems with Elmiron. Oh, yeah! I have been told CFS, but I don't have problems with Elmiron. Oh, well!

I haven't noticed any drowsiness with Elmiron. You do mention a lunch-time dose. I assume you are not actually taking the pill with your lunch--it's supposed to be taken on an empty stomach, at least 2 hours after eating a meal and at least one hour before the next meal.

To voice a different opinion, I took it for about a month and eventually did have cumulative fatigue and GI symptoms badly enough I stopped. Took longer than a few days to develop though, and with all else going on it is still possible it wasn't the Elmiron, even though over the week after I quit taking it things got increasingly better. If it bothers you, maybe you could speak w/ your doctor about stopping and restarting to pinpoint the cause?

Wow, it seems like I'm really on my own with this symptom, lol!

Maybe something else is going on in my system. Sigh.

    Thanks for the replies everyone,
    Ally

Ally I don't think you are on your own. I must take morning pills for high blood pressure, thyroid and high cholesterol plus one pill of Elmiron. Some or all of them are making me feel great fatigue. I stretch them out over a period of about three hours. I can not do without any one of them. Elmiron seems to have helped me greatly and the others are necessary for obvious reasons. I must take many other meds. at night so I can't take them all in the evening. I take one other 100mg Elmiron two hours before dinner. I really hate the feeling of not being able to do some jobs I plan due to being so tired. I don't have any answers. I'm just living with it. My IC is being kind to me right now so I have much to be grateful for. I tackle each job a little at a time. Not easy for an "A" type person with ADD. It takes understanding my limits and a lot of determination. Wishing you all the best. Hugs, Ziggy

    Thanks Ziggy

I think it's a combination of medications for me too.

I'm also on Tofranil and with the three tablets of Elmiron, I think my system is just out of wack until I get used to it ...

    Thanks again,
    Ally

    drowsiness with Elmiron

I've been on Elmiron for three days now and yes--it has been making me very drowsy. Hope this side effect wears off with time!

The only early side effect I had was a little itching on my face, arms, and legs.

I stopped taking Elmiron after about three weeks because I was getting very disoriented. Then again, it could be a potassium deficiency or some other nutrient. It took several days, but I'm not loopy any more. Still have to discuss it with the Uro.
