Which pharmacy do you use?
Just wondering where you all have found the cheapest prices for Elmiron? Walgreens? Walmart? I have a high-deductible plan so I pay 100% cost for Elmiron until we hit our $5000 deductible
I am using Medco right now and it will be $1000 for a 3 month prescription so I'm shopping around. I cannot live without my Elmiron!
Symptoms: Increased pain with activity (especially lower leg work and bending over); stabbing urethral pain, menstrual cramp pain, cannot wear tight pants, feel worse during spring/summer allergy season. The combo of things that brought me out of remission were artificial sweetners, liquid vitamins with citric acid, tight pants, lower body workouts and stopping all my allergy meds cold turkey during height of allergy season. I wish I knew back then what I know now about IC
First IC symptoms Spring of 2000; In-office cystoscopy 2002 -negative; Remission until 2007 (yeah!!); Negative PST spring of 2007
IC diagnosed via Cystoscopy and Hydrodistention 7/24/07; Another In-office cystoscopy 4/9/10 with biopsy showed inflammation
Treatments for my IC/PFD:
Elmiron 400 mg per day; Physical Therapy for PFD; Zyrtec; Singulair
Ice packs and laying down
Tried and Failed: Heparin instills -too painful for my urethra; Atarax (interfered with my quality of sleep first time, second time dried my bladder out; Elavil makes me sick, lidocaine patches, Cystoprotek (only tried a couple months but didn't seem to do much)
Other Diagnoses: PFD diagnosed 9/09; Fibromyalgia
Gastroparesis (delayed gastric emptying) Anxiety
Other medications: Ambien, Zegerid, Ativan, Zyrtec
MOMMY SINCE 10/28/08
EXPECTING BABY BOY 6/30/11

Hi Charisse...
I cannot say for sure but in my experience with Elmiron and other meds Walmart does seem to be the least expensive in my area. Hope this helps! In remission since Aug 2009!

What helped me get to and stay in remission? stress reduction, diet, time, meditation, stress reduction, stress reduction, stress reduction!--I no longer take medications for IC, PFD,VV, anxiety, or depression. Making career and lifestyle changes to reduce stress and learning techniques to manage anxiety set the stage for my bladder to heal.
My history: No history of bladder issues***Onset of IC and VV sxs Nov 2003***Diagnosed Nov 2004 based on symptoms and hydro/biopsy results***Cysto-Hydro did not give therapeutic relief, I had complications and long recovery
***Hunner's Ulcers found and removed during hydro***Symptoms: the usual~pain, burning, spasms, frequency, urgency, nocturia, lower back and upper thigh pain, very bloated "IC Belly"
Treatments that helped my IC,VV,& PFD symptoms: pyridium, elavil, tylenol 3, ibuprofen, lidocaine gel and patches, cold packs, heating pad, diet, lots of water

I use CVS, but please also know you can get Elmiron FOR FREE thru their script assist plan. I am blessed to be on it & you just need to google Elmiron & they will have the info to get signed up for it (all income based).
GOOD LUCKKaren
Currently Taking:
10 MG Lexapro
Percocet 10/325 as needed for pain/burning (up to 4x)
Valium 5-10mg
900 MG Oxycarbizine (mood disorder)
300 MG Welbutrin
Hyophen as needed for burning/spasms
Soma as needed for spasms
Prevacid 30 mg
Been diagnosed for 10 years now, consider myself pretty well versed in this disease

Great suggestion!
Just in case you don't qualify, Charisse, just get on the phone and start calling around to the pharmacies in your area and ask their price for Elmiron and any other meds you take. That is how I found out that Walmart is the most affordable for all of my meds where I live. ALso please call your ins co to see if it has a mail order program where you can order 3 months worth of ELmiron at a time at usually a much worth it discount.
I have been without insurance/Rx plan for the past year or so....that is when I started making those calls to the pharmacies. My health insurance is effective again as of July 1, and I do have a pretty good Rx plan but it does have a small deductible....not nearly as large as yours
but still a deductible so until I meet that deductible I definitely want to get the best price possible for each med, even if it means using differnet pharmacies for each med I am rxd. And Walmart I have found to be the least expensive. In my area we have Walmart, CVS, and Walgreens pharmacies, some privately owned pharmacies (always most expensive, it seems), and some regional supermarkets that have pharmacies.
In remission since Aug 2009!

My Elmiron is covered under the highest priced tier on my insurance ($50 per months supply). When I first started taking it 3 yrs ago the only pharmacy that had it in stock was Walgreens; the uninsured price for 810 pills (3 months worth for me) back then was $1435.00. I was going to switch to Walmart pharmacy due to convenience (seems I was always there for something!), however their price was more expensive.
Like mentioned, just do some calling around; or if you think you qualify try getting on the assistance program.
Good luck!
