Hernia worsening or forming from pushing?

Hi has anyone gotten a hernia or made one worse by having to "push" your urine out? I've had IC for 9 years now and I have tried almost everything. After my last Hydrodistention, I found myself having the urgency but when it came time to go, I had to push it out. I guess I had a hernia, and this pushing has made it worse so that it constantly hurts now - its about 2 inches to the left of my belly button, and not only does it bulge every once in a while (feeling like a horrible charlie horse in my stomach) but it feels like my insides are sticking all together, very creepy. My doctor told me to start actually pushing on my bladder rather than just trying to push out the urine, until I get the hernia fixed. Thanks!

Your Dr. is right, don't push out your urine. I am glad you are seeing him and that is one thing we always tell people on here, don't push it out.

If I am having a hard time going, if I am at home I will go sit in a warm tub and if need be I will go in the tub.

    Don't Push

My IC Dr. told me to never push the urine out-that it will make the pain much worse.

Pushing and straining is never okay. It can cause some real problems.

Peggy...Your doctor gave you some solid advice. I hope you are able to have the hernia repaired, soon. Thank you so much for coming here and sharing your story. I am so sorry that you are going through this, but I hope what you have shared convinces others not to try to push urine out of the body. (((Hugs)))

Like everyone said, dont ever push/strain while urinating. Not only can it cause other problems, its usually counterproductive.
Regarding the hernia---when a hernia starts causing pain this is a sign to get it repaired as soon as possible. If it becomes strangulated you're going to have a real emergency on your hands. Get it repaired now while symptoms are manageable.

    Wishing you well....
