Does Advil aggravate IC?
Hi ,
I was just wondering if Advil makes IC worse? I take it for intense menstrual cramps.

Some people say Ibuprofen products (Advil) do cause problems for them.

I personally do not have a problem with either Advil or Alleve (ibuprofen and naproxen). I have prescription pain meds for my IC pain but they do nothing for my menstrual pain. I take either Advil or Alleve and get almost 100% relief from my menstrual pain. Some ICers can tolerate these meds, others cannot. Luckily they don't bother me and they relieve my menstrual pain. Best wishes,Bri

Adding a third because I'm just so darn easily amused...

It bothers me too. I can take Tylenol, and I also take Celebrex for back pain, and it does work for the IC. It is related to Vioxx though, so you would need to talk to your doctor about it and all of the potential side-effects.

I was nervous about taking ibuprofin, but I felt like I needed it after an in-office cysto. I took a standard dose that evening, only once, and it helped. I took it with a lot of water and didn't have a problem.

I have terrible menstural cramps and have to take 800mg of Motrin every 4 hours for the first 3 days of my period just to be able to walk. The Advil doesnt seem to be a big trigger for me. But I know it bothers most IC'ers.
