Emablex?
I have been on Emablex for 8 days now and I think it's making me worse. I find that my urine flow is weaker. Also usually when I get I really strong urge to void I end up voiding quite a bit. Since I've been on this medication I've gotten really strong urges 2-3 times but barly voided anything and my flow was really weak. I also think that its given me more of a burning when I pee and my bladder feels even more like its on fire. I'm not sure though if its the medication or just my bladder being really stupied right now. Has anyone else had problems with Emablex?

my urologist keeps getting me to try different over active bladder medications. So far they have all given me retention..I don't know why he keeps getting me to try them as I see it If one dosn't work then none of them will. Arn't those medications all the same just a different name?

I took Enablex for 4 days and was totally constipated and it also weakened my flow -- then I tried Detrol LA and had major retention -- I finally settled in with Vesicare 5mg and tho I do have some constipation issues with it also (I have IBS-C) it has gotten my frequency down to getting up about 2 times during the night and I go about every 2-2 1/2 hours during the day -- I can live with that for now, until the Elmiron kicks in (I have been taking it for 1 month) - I also Use UTA capsules (generic Urelle) when I am having a bad frequency day or a flare --
Hope you find the right combination for you very soon -- unfortunately it really is trial and error for most IC patients.

Should I try going off of it to see if it is the pills making my bladder burn more and giving me a weaker flow? I just had a good void but then again its 1 in the morning the pill has probably died off. I don't know my bladder usually dosn't burn as much as it is now but I can't remember if it started the same time I started the pills.

my doc wants me to take enablex too. I feel it affects my flow too. I have lots of frequency issues, so if I can't pee very well, it makes things worse. In the past if I do the diet really well and keep on the elavil, I get better in a couple of days. But this flare is a killer! Tons of frequency. And I have no idea what I did to get it started. Baking powder and water did help in the past, but even thats not helping. I am so bummed.
symptoms when in a flare:
I feel everything in my urethra but I know its really my bladder. Pressure, stinging, urgency, tingling feeling thats hard to describe.
*I have a fibroid on my uterus near my bladder.
Medication
100mg Amitripyline ( I have seriously gained almost 50lbs on this drug but I feel it works)
Flexoril 10mg (doesn't work)
Hydrocodone 5/325 PRN
Cetalopram 40mg *severe anxiety over flare
Physical therapy hasnt really helped but I love her! I've learned so much! She states that my muscles around
My urethra are very tight.
currently seeing a Gyn in my town and a Uro in Seattle (4 hrs away)
I have had lots of long term remissions. Currently been struggling with good & bad days since Jan 2012

oab meds don't tend to work for us
You need to try a different kind of anti-spasmodic. Over active bladder (OAB) meds are designed for "sudden urges". Those of us with IC tend to have urge all the time! Not the same thing! I would suggest you talk to your doctor about ditropan xl. Also urelle (utira-c is the generic) and prosed are also good options. There is no generic for prosed so it tends to be more expensive. Your urologist should have free sample of both urelle and prosed. Mine gave me a two week supply of each to see if I could tell any difference. They both helped with the frequency and urge, so the generic utira-c works good for me. I know there is another one called Levsin. We all react differently so I hope one of these can help. Always ask your doctor for free samples too! I found that saved alot of money by trying something before paying a $60 copay for a med that doesn't work! Good luck to you.

I too have been in a flare now going on 3 weeks! I hate this! I took an at home uti test and the wbc were abnormal but not the nitrate. Took Macrobid, burning stopped and then had yeast. Taking clotrimazole for three days, and still no relief. I do not know what I did either, but this throbbing in the nether regions is my one symptom that will not go away. What do people do for this? I really do not want to start another medication and am hoping that this will end soon but I am at my witts end! How long do people flare? When I started Elmiron almost a year ago in November, I felt great, like I did not even have this disease. I ate whatever, drank whatever, and all of a sudden, this!!! Please Please go away!!!!!

FORMOM from what I've learned and been told is that you still need to watch your diet even though your taking Elmiron and its working. Like my IBS the medication I take helps and it dosn't bother me till I eat something spicy or have fast food. Im pretty sure IC is something that even though you feel better you still can't eat or drink certin things ex coffee, tea, alcohol, chocolate, fast food (it makes you have muscle spasms). So you might be having a flare because your back to eating and drinking whatever. Think of what you have been consuming alot of and try taking it away see if that makes a difference. I've been doing the diet and so far it hasn't made much of a difference but then I don't what to eat something that irratates the bladder so im sticking with it. Last year before I was even on medication my bladder got better for about 7-8 months it was like nothing waas wrong. Its back agin and has been a year since I've felt ok.I went of the Emablex and my bladder has stoped burning really bad. I also talked to my doctor about trying elavil but he said that it has side effects like you feel like your spaced out and have a cotton ball feel in you mouth and throut. Elamar your right I always feel like I have to go and Im going to talk to my urologist about those medications you suggested, thanxs. All I hope for right now is that the Elmiron accually works.

Ok I think I know how I got this flair. I have an IUD do I don't really get periods and I think that is what caused my flair. I had 2 horrible frequency days. Ugh! But I think I am starting to feel a little better. Thank goodness! I will pray for you guys for some relief soon!
