Starting New Thread On Dextroamphetamine

Hi Everyone,
I'm posting a new thread on this topic so that it doesn't get to long and get closed again.

Anyone else on Dextroamphetamine?

If so, what specialty was the Dr. that Rxd it? Are there any journal articles out there other than the 2 by Dr. Jerome Clark?

Does anyone know Betsy who is Dr. Brookoff's patient being succesfully treated with Dextroamphetmaine and how to contact her and tell her to please post her progress?

I just know of the articles posted on page 8 of the " Question On Dextroamphetamine-sulfate" thread.

I'm in Vancouver, BC. I can give anyone in the area the name of my family doctor who prescribed the dextro to me.

I asked my uro and gyno for a 2 week trial and neither would touch it. Sorry, I can't help.

Hi,
Pyschiatrists are used to Rxing amphetamines for ADD.

They're more comfortable, in general with that class of meds.

Thanks for starting a new thread, and THANKS TO THE POWERS THAT BE for starting a dex board here!

I have printed out everything I could find from these threads (still printing, hmmm) and might wait until fall, when I typically have to go to bed and stay there all winter, before I ask my doc to let me try it. I'm doing pretty well on 2 weeks of imipramine; more energy, less bladder pain. Exactly what I've been asking for for years!

But my support is always here for those looking for dex or just starting. I HOPE THIS WORKS FOR YOU!

DOes anyone know if it helps with urgency/frequency??? I am hoping that someone can answer this. I am really considering trying this as I have been having a lot of trouble lately with all symptoms. I just got a new job and want to be able to handle it and not have to quit!!!

I have been on this med for 19 days. I have almost No pain and almost NO urgency and frequency. I could tell on the 4th day that it was going to work for me. My bladder pain was at "12" a great deal of the time and the best it got was "4" for the last 15 months. I was also in a horrible IBS flare at the same time.

As a former ER and OR RN and IC/IBS/PFD patient, I would encourage anyone to discuss trying this med with their doctor for difficult cases that haven't responded well to the "standard" IC/PFD/CPP treatments.

I had a very difficult time finding someone willing to Rx this for me, and had to pay big $ to see a psychiatrist - they're not afraid of this class of drugs like some doctors. Just do a search of my posts and you will see what I mean. Unfortunately for me, my doc had no problem Rxing 180 Valium 10 mg. for PFD just with Dr. Brookoff's Q & A for evidence, but was scared silly to Rx Dextroamphetamine. She has never Rxd this med and could not find any other doc she knew who was treating chronic pelvic pain with it. My community, I found out, is notoriously conservative re amphetamines. This is a Schedule 2 drug and considered highly addictive. Every Rx is immediately reported via computer to the DEA. You cannot refill the Rx w/o seeing the prescribing doc every 30 days and you cannot fill the Rx any sooner than exactly 30 days. I am reasonably sure this is the rule throuhout the country.

If you aren't too far from GA and can't find anyone local to help you with this, I know of a great gyn in GA who does Rx this med for CPP and IC. Just PM me and I'll be glad to share her name with you.

Good luck. I am so glad I was able to try this med. I don't quite feel "normal" yet - but hey- I'm coming out of a 15 month flare so I don't expect to feel totally great in 19 days. But the improvement so far is phoenomenal and very encouraging. I know it is going to take some time to get my endurance and energy back. I got very anemic due to IBS flaring at the same time and have only been able to consistently take iron for 3 weeks due to the IBS. It's finally calming down with Lomotil and I've been able to keep up with vitamins and iron now that I can eat.

Every few days I can feel myself iimproving. I'm able to run a few errands now w/o feeling completely exhausted - still tiring, but not as much.

Janet, I can hardly believe it has been 19 days already! That time just FLEW by! I am so glad you are doing well on the dex, as you knew you would. Thanks for sharing your experiences with all of us. It helps to know what to expect when we ask for it as well as when we go on it.

I'm still holding out hope that I won't do my usual major "crash" in the autumn, but if I do, I'm asking about this. I had a lot of energy a month ago when I first started on the imipramine, but now I seem to have gotten used to it and am fatigued again. That always seems to be the story when I start something new, but I doubt that would happen with the dex.

So let us know how you're doing in another 19 days, Janet. I'm so happy for you!!!
