Sex After A Cystectomy
Hi,
I just want to ask some of the ladies here who have had a cystectomy if you are able to have an orgasm, or have enjoyable penetration after you fully recovered from the surgery? I am getting closer to having a cystectomy and this concerns me very much because I am very concerned how or if my sexuality will be affected. Even though I had reservations about being upfront and asking these questions I am truly worried and need to know what problems can occur if any. Are you able to have a normal sex life as you did before ic, or your cystectomy?
I hope it's okay to discuss this on here and I haven't disrespected any guidelines. If any of you feel shy to discuss this please e-mail me privately. I really appreciate any feedback I can get.

Marsi...I don't have any advice for you as I still have my bladder, but I wanted to reassure you that you have done nothing wrong by posting your questions. I hope someone comes by who can give you some personal advice.

Without going into too much detail sex is better because you don't have the bladder pain to deal with.

For the few that have answered is that a yes for both my questions. I would appreciate a little more info if possible because I still don't feel reassured. Thanks though for your feedback.

I can only speak for myself and yes, I do have a great sex life that works for both me and my husband

As for being more specific what do you mean? I am not comfortable discussing the intimate details of my sex life.

Judith thanks for your reply. So there is hope in that department. What I want to know is if you can have a perfectly normal sex life without any restrictions. Is there anything you can't do after this surgery? Or is everything possible? I don't want any details but a yes to both my questions is what I was hoping for ha ha. Thanks for letting me know that I can still enjoy being intimate which is important to me. I was worried about the Urethrectomy affecting the nerves and sensation in the surrounding area and making it impossible to achieve an orgasm. I was concerned because I read that pelvic surgery or a cystectomy can affect one's sexuality.
:woohoo:

Unless there are problems that arise during your surgery, you should be able to have a normal sex life and you can even have children barring any other complications as long as your female organs are intact. So all that being said the answers to your questions would be yes, except of the one about what can you not do. That is something you would have to ask your uro or gynecologist, basically though there should be no restrictioons.

Ditto to what Judith said. I would think that the only time there would be resrictions or limitations is if you have OTHER underlying conditions such as pfd or something like that. I know for me personally there are no restrictions.
