pelvic pain specialist appt today
Well it went pretty well. I waited since October to get finally get an appt with this pelvic pain specialist. I wasn't surprised at what he had to say. He said I have some pretty bad PFD including Piriformis Syndrome and Levator Ani Tension Myalgia whatever that means (I need to look it up). God that exam was PAINFUL for sure. He said I need to stay on the neurontin, add a long acting narcotic (which we thought), see a PT and a pain psychologist. He said something intersting that I had never thought of. That part of the reason to see the pain psychologist is b/c with this condition happening after my bad pregnancy, labor and delivery that there might be some kind of things that need to be worked out. Interesting thought I thought. Anyway, so I'm off to my pain mgt appt. so I can tell him that I do a long acting narcotic. I just really hesitate to go on methadone which is one he has talked about or oxycontin. I'll let ya know when I get back what we decide.

What did they say about the Levator Ani? That muscle is my main problem. I even had Trigger Point Injections there and it hasn't even helped. i believe it made things worse!
Dx Pelvic Pain Syndrome 10/2007. Cysto/Hydro show Negative for IC
Current Meds:
Levbid for urethra spasms (haven't needed this for 2 years)
Pyridium when needed
BC pills
Macrobid for after intercourse (haven't needed this for 2 years)
tried and stopped Elavil because of side effects
Ice packs are almost instant relief for my external burning/ and I love MSM gel/hydro cortizone cream
Trigger Point injections for tender and tight Levatar Ani muscles (did not work

He said that's where he could feel all the spasming. They showed me a picture of the pelvic floor muscles and I have spasming on both sides when he did the exam. He said trigger point injections may help a little but that they mostly help with the muscles in the abd wall and the pelvic floor muscles are deeper and more difficult to do trigger points.
