What do you eat for Breakfast?
I have been having trouble finding breakfast food that does not bother me. I like to eat oat meal or organic cocoa puffs. When I am in my morning classes, which are about 1hr15min, I can pee around 2-5 times. It is crazy because I miss so much class, not to mention being the girl who leaves the class all the time. But I can eat these things in the evening and they do not bother me. So what I wanted to know is what other people eat for breakfast. What do you do? Has anyone had to deal with this?
Thanks everyone

I am 23 and have had IC for about 3 years now.
I have also had rheumatoid arthritis for about 21 years, I like to think I am used to pain.
I am interested in hearing from people with similar circumstances as I am in, like having IC and RA, being in college, etc. I feel it helps.

I almost always urinate more in the morning than any other time of day. I can eat regular Cheerios with a little milk without it causing bladder problems.

I usually eat a slice of bread with a slice of cheese. There are these little hard slices of european bread called Wasa bread that I eat that don't bother my bladder. If I am not flaring, I will add a couple pieces of spinach to the top, yummy!!
I adore cheese, love it, love it, love it! I think I eat way too much but I am kinda funny about meat, so it is a good source of protein for me. I used to love brown sugar sausage and fried potatoes but those make me flare now
Plus, they are really unhealthy!
In college I suffered agonies I dont ever want to remember b/c of my bladder. Lets just say I "lost control" of my bladder several times in class. Not something I ever want to relive. I had a professor who locked the door and locked students in during tests and I had to fail a test one time b/c I peed my pants and had to leave. I complained to the dean after that and the rules changed! It was one of the worst experiences of my life but I was glad that I got her to recognize that wasn't okay to tell another human being they couldn't use the restroom!
SarahCurrent meds; , effexor 37.5 mg 2 times a day, and lyrica 100 mg 3 times a day
, lots of reading and snuggling with the pets

I can't eat Cheerios or regular breakfast cereals, all the vitamins they are enriched with bug my bladder.
So, I eat Oatios, Rice Crunch'Ems, Nature's Path Honey'd Corn Flakes or Barbara's Shredded Wheat from the local health food store or Whole Foods. Or, Trader Joe's plain shredded wheat is ok too. Quaker Oats regular (not instant) oatmeal with raisins or brown sugar.
Homemade muffins, waffles or pancakes. I use Bisquick & have not had any trouble with that.
Scrambled egg, plain or with veggies mixed in. Toast with IC-safe bread. (just wheat, water & yeast)Kadi

That is interesting. In Bev Lauman's cookbook "At Taste of the Good Life," she mentions eating chocolate (only a bit) in the morning & being able to get away w/ it then, but not so much in the evening. I can't take meds right now, so I would dare try. I'm glad you get to eat cocoa puffs! Sounds yummy!
Breakfast foods, in general, don't bother me too much. I try to buy uncured/nitrate free bacon when I can get to Wild Oats, but that's hard. Generally, I can get away w/ a little bit of reg. sausage/bacon every now & then. I eat a lot of oatmeal w/ brown sugar & sometimes raisins. I also like cinnamon or plain bagles from bread co. w/ cream cheese. Eggs w/ American or munster cheese work well for me too. Raisin Bran Crunch is usually a good cereal for me, but I have to avoid it during a flare.

Mornings have been tough for me too....Altho I think its more to do with holding urine for HOURS at night, rather that what I eat for breakfast. Or maybe it has to do with what I eat for dinner??? Interesting...I hadn't thought of that before.
Well here goes:
I eat 2 egg whites and 1 cup of plain instant oatmeal
or
2 egg whites with 1 banana
or
1 English muffin, with 1 whole egg (scrambled or sunny side up)
with a piece of very low fat ham/canadian bacon with a slice of low-fat cheddar.
and every morning I drink black, decaf tea.

I am great with breakfast cereals, so I do that with blueberries and flaxseed every morning.
The one thing I love the most is my instant oatmeal.. i always add a little brown sugar.. some blueberries.. and if you can handle (for me it is greener bananas, once they start getting very ripe they bother me.. )
on weekends my hubby makes me egg whites and toast yum with margarine.. yummyHealing thoughts

Thanks for all the ideas. I have not thought of english muffins or oatmel that is not instant. The other day I had plain rice, and no pain! But I was hungry two hours later, but no pain is the best.
I don't want to die, I just want to go to the bathroom.

I like the SteamFresh packages of rice from the freezer section at Safeway. Sometimes for breakfast, I'll have scrambled or fried egg over rice. And pear juice mixed with carrot juice for a beverage.
I also find that plain Quaker Oats is great for breakfast. Lately I've been fixing them with a tsp of FiberSure powder mixed in (great source of soluble fiber, helps with the IBS-C), a third cup of blueberries, one packet of sugar & a splash of nonfat milk. Very filling & keeps my energy pretty stable all morning.Kadi

My usual breakfast is one or two hard boiled eggs (I boil them by the dozen to have on hand to eat plain or in salads), sometimes I eat the yoke, sometimes not, whole wheat toast or english muffin or plain oatmeal w/ butter and milk(not the instant oatmeal) and a glass of fat free milk. I can usually handle a small glass of low acid OJ or any fruit after I eat my breakfast. If I drink the OJ/fruit on an empty stomach I will have problems but don't seem to if I have them on a full stomach. Sometimes I subsitute cheese for either the milk or egg.
I have found that including protein (egg, milk, cheese) in my breakfast can set the tone for the day on how my bladder reacts to other foods, stress, etc. So I guess you could say that breakfast is my most important meal of the day.
I'm not crazy about cereal but I try to eat it a few times a week for the fiber, but I usually have it as a snack sometime later in the day rather than for breakfast. Best wishes
In remission since Aug 2009!
New to IC? read this--IC Treatment and Diagnostic Guidelines--American Urological Association

What helped me get to and stay in remission? stress reduction, diet, time, meditation, stress reduction, stress reduction, stress reduction!--I no longer take medications for IC, PFD,VV, anxiety, or depression. Making career and lifestyle changes to reduce stress and learning techniques to manage anxiety set the stage for my bladder to heal.
My history: No history of bladder issues***Onset of IC and VV sxs Nov 2003***Diagnosed Nov 2004 based on symptoms and hydro/biopsy results***Cysto-Hydro did not give therapeutic relief, I had complications and long recovery
***Hunner's Ulcers found and removed during hydro***Symptoms: the usual~pain, burning, spasms, frequency, urgency, nocturia, lower back and upper thigh pain, very bloated "IC Belly"
Treatments that helped my IC,VV,& PFD symptoms: pyridium, elavil, tylenol 3, ibuprofen, lidocaine gel and patches, cold packs, heating pad, diet, lots of water

Usually wheat chex with skim milk and fresh blueberries (Costco has them most of the year, but if not, fresh frozen are ok); oatmeal; or matzo brie when I need some protein (crumble up 2 wet matzos in a mixing bowl, add 1 egg and 2 egg whites, cook in a pan with cooking spray, flattened like an omelet, flip it halfway through). I can eat pancakes and maple syrup, but usually only indulge on vacation.
Je vous souhaite de la joie, de la bonne santée, et tout ce qu'il y a de bon dans la vie.
Wishing you happiness and good health, and all the best out of life.
Peace, Carolyn
