Does anyone else have a ringing in their ears?
I was researching IC and looked at what the Chinese doctors had to say about it. I found their description of it to be pretty accurate. Here it is if anyone wants to read it. But anyway, I did start have this high pitch noise in my ears right before the bladder stuff started. "The Chinese medicine explanation of IC symptoms is the following: Pain and burning are experienced because of the meridian blockage of both the bladder and kidney and thus the Qi can not flow through the meridian. The frequency is caused by the lack of power in the kidney which causes the bladder to be out of control. The discomfort in the inner thigh area is because this is the pass way of that meridian. The weakness in the lower back is on the location of the blocked meridian. The dizziness and ear ringing is because the ears are the opening of the kidney meridian."

So strange.... you know I have never really noticed ringing in my ears to the point that it bothered me or anything, but just now when I was looking thru the new posts my ears were ringing and then i read this!! weird! Hmmm i dont know what to think of that little explanation, but certainly food for thought.
Diagnosed formally with IC in July 2007 (although I have had the symptoms for 6-7 yrs)
Main Symptoms: HORRIBLE frequency and pressure
Current meds:
Wellbutrin Sr (i dont know if this causes flares, but i cant live w/o it at this pt)
Loestrin
currently in PT, though I only can go every other week- will be incorporating trigger point injections soon.
Trying Aloe capsules- but have noticed not change thus far.
Take Ativan as needed for anxiety
Vicodin on rare occasions for pain (dont want to be addicted- and it puts me in a euphoric state, but it helps)
Was given Bentyl for IBS to take when needed. I dont really notice any relief from it though.
Scared to try: Elavil, Lexapro, Neurontin (i have to work to stay thin and healthy, I have put in my time over the years!!!, i dont want to see it slip away because of medication... that would just cause more anxiety and depression)
Have tried w/no luck:
Detrol LA
Enablex
Vesicare
Elmiron
Vistiral

I haven't heard of ringing in the ears being related to IC. I do think you should let your doctor know if it persists.
I noted that you are taking mineral oil daily --- that's something else you should discuss with your doctor. When I was a little girl one of my aunts became very ill and was horribly thin. It took quite a while to find out what was causing it, but she finally told the doctor she was taking mineral oil daily. He told her that was the problem because it didn't let her body absorb nutrients from her food.

Cathy,
I too have ringing in my ears since my IC became serve 3 years ago. I thought that it was from all the tylenol I was taking but when I stopped taking the tylenol the ringing was still there.
On the minerial oil. I think was have all had this discussion before. I and my 5 (oops 6 as of yesterday!) daughter take mineral oil daily. Both of us are thriving since we got our IB-C under control. I need to loose a few lbs and she has actually gained 8 pounds in 6 months since we got her constipation under control. But anyway...there is already a thread on this.
Do you do acupuncture? I did for a few months and I think it really helped me to relax. Unfortunately my Dr. moved and I haven't taken the time to find a new therapist.

I have also read that some doctors that practice chinese medicine or herbalists think IC has something to do with the kidneys. Intresting.
