Pain management

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but here it goes. I go my first appt with a pain management dr - Dr Datta of Hackensack NJ on MOnday nov 12th and I'm really nervous. Does anyone know what these pain docs usually do during the first visit? Maybe its fear of the unknown but I really don't want alot of poking going around down there , it'll just make it worse - do they give pain medicine or do they usually do alternative type meds. I have no idea what to expect - any stories anyone would like to share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much
