    Break through pain meds

My uro was supposed to get some break through pain meds for my. I was in the ed for 5 hours yest. b/c I thought I had a uti. The dr never saw me in 5 hrs. My uro is on vacation now so they told me to go to the ed to get break through meds. Has anyone had success with that before or will it be a waste of time.

~I was diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis at the age of 23, 4 months after getting married. I also have severe Endometriosis, Adhesion Disease and Pelvic Floor Dysfunction. All of which were diagnosed AFTER being diagnosed with IC. Before IC my only health issues were a history of migraines since I was a child and a battle with cervical dysplasia. I had a LEEP in 2007 and have been clear of the cancerous cells since.~

Can I ask why you are out of breakthru meds? Did you run out? The ER is not the place you go when you run out of your daily meds. They can not and will not RX medications in a situation like this. This is up to your urologist, or whoever RX'd your medication. It's not an emergency situation. I'm not being snide, but this is the kind of thing that sets off alarm bells to the nurses and doctors in the ER. I'm assuming you didn't have a UTI?

I agree Sandy. This is the a sure thing if you have a pain contract to get you in trouble. I am on the other hand glad it wasn't a UTI. Sorry you missed your URO, I just seen him Tues while in Mo-town. Sending you hugs that your pain eases up with college starting this week maybe it is just stress. I seen on the news how crazy things were up there with move in today.

ps.....now that I think about it some more, Uro's have other Uro's on call, so if your meds are due to be refilled, the stand in doctor should happily call them in for you if your doctor is on vacation.......

I am sure Sandy, this is a major teaching hospital so someone is filling in. Call the medical helpline 1982 they can tell you this info but I am sure the ED contacted them already.

His office told me to go to the ed. I am not on a narcotics contract. They said none of the other doctors would do it. They said there maybe something non ic related causing me to have such severe pain and maybe the ed could diagnose it. His nurse wouldn't even speak withme. Just the secretary. I asked if they would call in pyridium and said no. OTC AZO causes me a major flare but pyridium doesn't. So if nothing else maybe I can get some pyridium.

also I still have my daily meds. They just aren't helping at all. I won;t take more than I am supposed to each day or I will run short.

Wow didn't you mention your mom was a Dr somewhere, maybe she could call in your pyridium for you just this once. I can double up AZO and it works just as well as pyridum does. Maybe try your GP. Maybe ask them to fill it once since your uro is out of town if that is truely the only med you need I am sure they would help you since this really isn't a break threw pain medication.

Yes my mother is a doctor. First off, I would never even think about asking her to do that, second off, if I did she would knock me to the moon and back. She made me sit in the er for 6 hours one time to get prednisone because I had poison ivy so bad. I think it would look a little funny having an opthamologist rx pyridium. It is a major no no in the medical field to rx medications to family members.
