D-Mannose
Does anyone know if you can take d-mannose when you have a yeast infections? I had a bladder infection, took Macrobid for 10 days, then got a yeast infection. Now I feel like I'm getting another UTI. I'm on Diflucan . I wonder if d-mannose is a sugar and it feeds the yeast. Also wonder if the Diflucan would protect me. Thanks

This explanation comes from the bottle of Dmannose capsules I take:
"A small amount of D manose is metabolized in the body , much of it is rapidly excreted in the urine. B/c of insubstantial amounts of D mannose are used in the body, it doesn't interfere with blood sugar"
I'll try to find out more information but I'm pretty sure it is correct.Laser cervical surgery after abnormal pap (moderate dysplasia) in 3/2004

talk to your dr to make sure you have anotehr UTI before you start antibiotics again.
The ideal thing to do is to take difluca while you are in teh last days of antibiotic ,and even use a yeast cream if you can tolerate b/c it is beter to prevent than to cure.Laser cervical surgery after abnormal pap (moderate dysplasia) in 3/2004

I took Dmannose for over a year and never had any yeast issues with it. I know that it helped my bladder for a long time, but then I still ended up getting IC. It is not suppose to be the kind of sugar that causes yeast issues. It is supposedly a sugar derived naturally from cranberries.
I would get a culture to see if you have a UTI though just to make sure.

Hope I'm replying in the same thread, not sure what that quick reply means or how to use it.
I started the d-mannose last night, so far so good. Until this year, I haven't had a UTI in 4 years. When I had the UTI I ended up with a yeast infection, c diff(a type of colitis from antibiotics), and vulvodynia. So, I really don't want to go on antibiotics. The Diflucan will help me with the yeast, but my GI system has a really hard time. In fact it's kind of messed up from the Macrobid.
I'm not really sure how to take the d-mannose, but from what I've read I should take it every couple hours the first day, every three hours the second day and every four hours the third day.....then once a day until there are no symptoms. Is that what most people do?

I would start out slow on it, maybe take it twice a day at first just to make sure it wont aggravate your bladder. I was on it for over a year before I got IC and it started really aggravating my bladder. I always start out slow.

I take 2-3 capsules a day as maintanence.
Make sure the D mannose brand you are getting only contains D mannose as ingredient, the first brand I got contained also cramberry so not good for the bladder but that was before IC so I don't get that brand anymore. Next time I'll try the one on the IC shop.
To prevent UTIs make sure you drink plenty of water, wash very well after each BM.Laser cervical surgery after abnormal pap (moderate dysplasia) in 3/2004

I'm taking Now brand D-Mannose capsules. My bladder feels normal, I just pray it keeps working and I don't get a UTI. I've been taking cranberry pills for 4 years and I felt they were protecting me. Not sure what happened to cause this infection. The cranberry pills have to be called whole fruit or freeze dried. I heard about these helping people on aol support group a long time ago. I was afraid to take them, but they had helped others. I take Natures Herbs, 100 caps for $8.18.
The D-Mannose is giving me a headache that kind of comes and goes. And yesterday I felt a little sick, so I spaced out the pills, and that helped.
