    "menthol-like Cool" Feeling?

I hope nobody thinks I'm crazy, but when I have a question, I just have to ask it, besides, this sensation is driving me crazy. I am "recovering" from my biopsy/cystoscopy that was done 30 days ago. I have a burn type feeling in my bladder, but not the screaming type of burn associated with UTI. It is more of a menthol-type "cool" burn feeling, like someone spread Vick's Vap-O-Rub or some menthol type gel on the inside of my bladder! Anyway, I wanted to know if anyone else had this sensation, and if it has to do with "healing", or the nerves of the bladder or something like that. Thank you.

I think I might know the feeling you're talking about.
I have felt that way after eating several mints or even
after drinking strong peppermint herbal tea.
Have you been eating mints or drinking peppermint tea?

No, I haven't...I'm beginning to think it's nerve "pain", and I hope it goes away,as I am recovering from a cysto/hydro/biopsy one month ago, and I never had this until I got that procedure. Thank you.

I also get the "menthol" feeling! I wish I knew what caused it...it normally doesn't last long, and I can't relate it to anything I eat. I do think it's some kind of nerve reaction too.

YES! At times I feel like there is ice water in my bladder...I know this is impossible but by using a heating pad the feeling goes away.

    I feel that too!

I was just writing in my other post under Newly Diagnosed that sometimes the 'pain' feels more like this weird cold, almost numb kind of pain. My IC pain is concentrated mostly in and around my vagina, although sometimes my butt feels really really cold! (Weirdness!) I feel the weird coldness usually in the morning, and by night things are burning and feel red-hot. Some days my pain sort of switches between the two sensations throughout the day. It is a very weird feeling that is a bit hard to describe, and I felt like a crazy person when I was first describing it to my gyno before I saw a pelvic pain specialist and was diagnosed with IC.

    So what is it?

I too have this "menthol" feeling ...and the cold water feeling. My bladder is supposed to be healing from urinary retention...so I figure this is all part of the nerves "healing"....so what did your specialist SAY it was????

    Apply cold

Yes I have that feeling as well. I was using a hot water bottle, but that sometimes seemed to make it worse. Then I tried applying a cold pack wrapped in a towel for about 10 mins and this works for me. Good luck!

I had this type of burning in my throat for the longest time. I went through tons of tests with doctors thinking it was acid reflux related and all tests were normal, and it was not acid related. Anyhow, my one neurologist said it was a neuralgia type pain, like what people get when they have shingles or what a diabetic experiences. Usually this is caused by some type of damage or trauma to the area. WHen I first got the throat burning, it was after a virus attacked my throat. At least that is what the doctor thinks happened though no one knows for sure.
It did get better after a year and half straight of suffering with the burning. They say that nerve pain is tricky and the worst type pain to have, especially the burning type. It can take a couple years to get better or it can last longer. It really all depends of what caused it or how severe the nerve damage is.
I am not sure that this is what the problem is that you have. It may just be the IC. I have burning in my bladder all the time. The severity varies at different times. I hope you get some relief real soon.
